这天，师徒四人走到深山。

”悟空说：“师父真不要我，就请念念‘松箍咒’，把这箍子退下来，我好回家。
”唐僧为难道：“我可是只会紧，不会松。
”“既然这箍子没法离开我，”悟空说，“我也就没法离开师父了。
”唐僧见悟空这样说，只好再饶他一次。
那妖精两次没得手，心想：“再往西四十里，就不是我的地盘了。
要是唐僧被别处妖魔捞了去，就太可惜了。
”于是她第三次变作一个老翁，一路叫着：“女儿呀
老婆呀
”再来算计唐僧。
八戒说：“师父呀，人家找来了
你该偿命，我该充军，做苦工，那猴子却溜得快
”悟空叫来山神、土地暗中照应，再不让妖精逃脱。
只见手起棒落，老翁倒下。
悟空说：“师父，你看
”地上躺着一堆骷髅。
“这是白骨成精。
”唐僧已经相信了，又听八戒说：“师兄是怕你念咒，故意变成这样。
”唐僧便下定决心，找出纸笔，写了一张贬书给悟空，“再不要你做徒弟了，去吧
”悟空很伤心，他嘱咐要照顾好师父，“遇见妖怪就说老孙是你的，他们就不敢乱来了。
”悟空要最后拜别师父，但师父不要他拜，他只得变几个替身团团围住，使唐僧勉强受了一拜。
赶走悟空后，唐僧又在碗子山波月洞的手下遭难。
被擒，八戒逃出，没奈何，这呆子只得厚厚脸皮去花果山讨救兵。
悟空问八戒：“不去取经，来这里做什么
”八戒扯个谎：“师父想你呢。
”“既然赶走，还想什么
不去
”八戒怕打，只得下山去，嘴里。
悟空早派了偷听，便把八戒抓回要打，八戒只得说出师父遇难的事。
悟空说：“你们为什么不告诉妖怪，老孙是唐僧的大徒弟
”八戒使个激将法，“他一听你的名字，就说要剥你的皮，抽你的筋
”悟空大怒，便随八戒去打。
双方相斗，悟空使出一招“叶底偷桃势”，妖怪竟被打得无影无踪。
后来查明此怪乃是天上星宿下凡。
悟空救出师父，唐僧又感激，又悔恨。
