大意是：锡安不是一个真实的城市，它是由一个比母体更高级的系统控制的虚拟世界，用来安置那1%反抗母体控制的人类的意识。
尼奥也不是真正的人类，他是母体中无数不可避免的异常程序的集合体，也就是一个大Bug。
而造物主也知道这是不可避免的，于是就利用这个Bug来为机器升级，于是尼奥就相当于一款升级软件了。
每一代的尼奥都会最终走回代码之源，帮助机器完成升级，而这时候机器大军会摧毁锡安，然后救世主会到母体中选择16女7男，组成议会，建立新的锡安，等待下一代的救世主出现。
而电影中的第六代尼奥为什么不同呢
是因为机器在进化到一定程度后，所必须面临的一个问题，那就是没有情感。
所以这一代的尼奥被植入了爱情的代码，并且在第三部中升华为博爱，达到了机器的目的。
