好莱坞一直在错误的塑造，用政治的利刃向在那场战争中牺牲的兄弟们身上捅刀子。
当战争结束，死去的人无法再站起来，而奇迹般幸存的人将终生无法抚平伤痛，早已同初上战场时的年轻人判若两人。
我们用这个故事向在那场战斗中死在我们枪口之下的北越士兵表达敬意，他们很英勇，他们是可敬的敌人。

” 兰德尔·华莱士于1993年在机场的书店中发现了这本书，是书名吸引了他。
华莱士在航班上读完了这本书，激动的心情无法平息，决定尝试拍成电影。
他立即同经济人取得了联系，要求寻找享有拍摄权的人，他希望改编成剧本。
情况很快明了，虽然还没有人取得这本畅销书的拍摄权，但作者对电影不感兴趣。
不过，华莱士并没打算放弃，他直接找到了两位作者，并给两人都留下了一封信，信中写道：“瞧，我说的一切都会让我听起来更像是一个好莱坞的说客，所以我不打算多费口舌，你们不认识我，从未听说过我和我的作品。
不过，我愿意将我写过的两个剧本寄给你们，请你们看一下，如果你们喜欢，那么给我电话，我们谈一下这部电影。
”在华莱士交给摩尔和加罗威的两个剧本中，就包括经典之作《勇敢的心》。
两位作者不久便致电给华莱士，同意商谈。
凭借着诚实的人品，华莱士终于赢得了两位作者的信任。
加罗威回忆说：“我们都曾想过，也许直到我们离开人世，这本书才会被改编成电影。
于是当华莱士找到我，我用一个问题来决定是否有继续交谈的必要，我问他是否相信英雄，他的回答很肯定，并告诉我刚刚完成《勇敢的心》。
我看了剧本，认为他是唯一的人选。
” 其实客观的说，加罗威、摩尔和华莱士三人都有着相似之处，那就是另类。
加罗威最终决定告别自己战地记者的生涯；摩尔在战斗中多次拒绝被空运至安全地带；而华莱士毕业于神学院，却是空手道黑带。
华莱士用自己的钱买下了拍摄权，而他身后没有制片公司，也没有签约演员。
后来，这部影片成为了华莱士自己组建的制片公司的第一部电影。
幕后花絮 ·兼任本片军事技术顾问和临时演员的科尼·托马斯(Keni Thomas)曾参加1993年在摩加迪沙的军事行动。
·影片最初完成的胶片长达150个小时，剪辑部门整整看了6天6夜。
·片头的法国号手是由编导兰德尔·华莱士的儿子扮演的。
·片尾曲《Mansions of The Lord》成为非官方的军方哀乐，里根的葬礼上就曾响起这段乐曲。
·片中A-6“入侵者”攻击机的画面最初是为1991年的《捍卫入侵者》拍摄的，在本片开拍的几年前，A-6“入侵者”已经退役，于是无法拍摄这种战机。
·片中第一骑兵师的幸存者曾有幸在本片公映之前观看本片，其中大部分人都在影片开始后30分钟内退场，因为影片相当真实，他们不想重温噩梦。
穿帮镜头 ·摩尔向孩子们道晚安时，上铺的孩子戴着现在款式的棒球头盔。
·当摩尔差点被刺中时，敌方士兵被子弹击中前额，但后来的画面中他的头部没有伤口。
