许寿裳在《〈鲁迅旧体诗集〉跋》中谈到《自题小像》时说：“首句之神矢，盖借用罗马神话爱神之故事，即异域典故。
”在罗马神话中，有一个长着翅膀的少年，就是爱神丘比特。
他的箭同时暗暗射中某男某女的心，这男女双方就会结合。
但他的射箭有点乱来，有时双方并不合适，他也射去，弄得人家虽不合适也非相爱不可。
鲁迅在五四时期写有一首白话诗《爱之神》，就写到这位“爱神”在射箭之后，被“一箭射着前胸”的人问他：“我应该爱谁

”这就是说，他颇有点“为射箭而射箭”，至于他胡乱射中的男女是否合适、是否美满，他是不管的了。

1903年夏，鲁迅归国度暑假，母亲要他答应早在他南京求学时就已提过的与朱家的婚事。

估计是在鲁迅假满回日本后，母亲就办订婚手续。
在封建社会，订婚几乎和结婚同样重要，事情定了就不能改了。
所以1903年暑假是鲁迅不幸婚姻的关键时刻，1906年不过是去“完婚”罢了。
鲁迅对这婚事内心是很不满意的，因而才有 “灵台无计逃神矢”的诗句。

暗，晦暗。
本句是说：祖国、故乡，在风雨飘摇的浓重的黑暗之中。
在自然环境中，狂风暴雨，昏天黑地，人们有时也会用“风雨如磐”来形容。
磐，扁圆的大石，喻风雨迫人的一种重压。
鲁迅1910年12月21日致许寿裳信中说：“故乡已雨雪，近稍就温，而风雨如磐，未肯霁也。
”这种自然景象，历来诗文中常用来比喻、联想政治的压抑、压迫。
如唐末贯休的《侠客》中有“黄昏风雨黑如磐”的诗句；清人龚自珍的《哭洞庭叶青原》中有“黑云雁背如磐堕”的说法。

这“风雨”当然是指政治风雨。

封建婚姻是黑暗的物质统治和精神统治的表现形式之一，也是笼罩人民生活的一个阴影。
寄意寒星荃不察。
在漫漫黑夜中，天空的寒星是唯一闪光者，它使追求光明的人寄予希望。
“寄意寒星”，在本诗诗人大概也就是这意思。
《楚辞·九辩》：“愿寄言夫流星兮，羌倏忽而难当；卒壅蔽此浮云兮，下暗漠而无光。
”王逸《楚辞章句》以为“流星”句是“欲托忠策忠于贤良也”，那“流星”是指 “君”。
王夫之《楚辞通释》则认为：“流星”是指“小人”；“其奸谗闪烁”，不过“如流星之炫耀”。
鲁迅在本诗中的“寒星”，既不会指“君”，也不会指 “小人”，他只是采用《九辩》的句法罢了。
那么，鲁迅诗中的“寒星”是指谁呢
我以为是指国民，即民众。
“荃不察”，语出《离骚》：“荃不察余之衷情兮，反信谗而齌怒。
”王逸认为：“荃，香草，以喻君也。
”朱熹也认为：“此又借以寓意于君也。
”但在《楚辞》中，荃并不只用来指君。
同在《离骚》中就有这样的句子：“兰芷变而不芳兮，荃蕙化而为茅。
”兰、芷、荃、蕙本来都是香草，可有的变为不芳，有的变为恶草。
茅，恶草也。
这是指贤臣中，有的人变坏了。
可见， “荃”在楚辞中，可用来指君，也可用来指臣。
鲁迅在本诗中，“荃”是指国民、民众。
“寒星”和“荃”都是指国民、民众。
“寄意寒心荃不察”的寓意是：将希望寄托于民众，但民众还没有觉醒，他们对我的希望还不能理解。
有些研究者说：鲁迅在这里是用“荃”指母亲，“荃”不察，他只好寄意天空中的寒星了。
我认为，这种说法和我的理解没有太大的矛盾。
母亲不能理解鲁迅婚姻自由、自主的愿望，因为她也是落后、愚昧、尚未觉醒的民众中的一员。
不必把母亲与民众对立和分离开来。
