城上两旁有矮墙，名叫宇墙，外侧的墙又叫堞墙，高1.7米，上面有垛口，是巡逻放哨了望用的。
垛口下面为射击孔，是射箭用的。
内侧宇墙，高1米。
在城墙内则，每隔一段距离有券门，门内有石阶可以登城。
城上每隔300-500米，就有一处城台。
听导游介绍，烽火台上如发现敌情，白天燃烟，夜间举火，远处的墩台发现烟火，也立即点燃烟火，逐个相传，能较快地传到指挥机关。
