Thank you very much. Good morning. I want to thank the Secretary General for organizing this summit, and all the leaders who are participating. That so many of us are here today is a recognition that the threat from climate change is serious, it is urgent, and it is growing. Our generation's response to this challenge will be judged by history, for if we fail to meet it -- boldly, swiftly, and together -- we risk consigning future generations to an irreversible catastrophe. No nation, however large or small, wealthy or poor, can escape the impact of climate change. Rising sea levels threaten every coastline. More powerful storms and floods threaten every continent. More frequent droughts and crop failures breed hunger and conflict in places where hunger and conflict already thrive. On shrinking islands, families are already being forced to flee their homes as climate refugees. The security and stability of each nation and all peoples -- our prosperity, our health, and our safety -- are in jeopardy. And the time we have to reverse this tide is running out. And yet, we can reverse it. John F. Kennedy once observed that Our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man. It is true that for too many years, mankind has been slow to respond or even recognize the magnitude of the climate threat. It is true of my own country, as well. We recognize that. But this is a new day. It is a new era. And I am proud to say that the United States has done more to promote clean energy and reduce carbon pollution in the last eight months than at any other time in our history. We are making our government's largest ever investment in renewable energy -- an investment aimed at doubling the generating capacity from wind and other renewable resources in three years. Across America, entrepreneurs are constructing wind turbines and solar panels and batteries for hybrid cars with the help of loan guarantees and tax credits -- projects that are creating new jobs and new industries. We're investing billions to cut energy waste in our homes, our buildings, and appliances -- helping American families save money on energy bills in the process. We've proposed the very first national policy aimed at both increasing fuel economy and reducing greenhouse gas pollution for all new cars and trucks -- a standard that will also save consumers money and our nation oil. We're moving forward with our nation's first offshore wind energy projects. We're investing billions to capture carbon pollution so that we can clean up our coal plants. And just this week, we announced that for the first time ever, we'll begin tracking how much greenhouse gas pollution is being emitted throughout the country. Later this week, I will work with my colleagues at the G20 to phase out fossil fuel subsidies so that we can better address our climate challenge. And already, we know that the recent drop in overall U.S. emissions is due in part to steps that promote greater efficiency and greater use of renewable energy.

有关全球气候变暖的英语演讲稿

Global WarmingThere is little doubt that the planet is warming. Over the last century, the planets temperature has risen by around 1 degree fahrenheit (0.6 of a degree celsius). The warmest since the mid 1800’s was the 1990s. The hottest years recorded were 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003. The United Nations panel on climate change projects that the global temperatures will rise 3-10 degrees fahrenheit by the century’s end - enough to have the polar caps all but melted. If the ice caps melt, a vast majority of our countries borders will be under water. Monuments and great buildings, as well as homes and lives will be under water, including New York City.So now we know what some of the causes are for global warming, how can we as individuals do our part to help save the planet? The answer is simpler than you may think. You don’t have to go miles away from home to protest, or spend masses of money. If you try to follow the few simple steps that I shall now give you, you will have started to help us all.Firstly, plant a tree. This could be easier than it sounds. Join or help out a local wildlife group and ask to plant a tree. Trees, when fully grown, will help keep the planet cooler. On the same point, you could protest against the demolition of the rainforests. This is the same principle, we need the trees to cool our planet and yet they are chopping them down to create roads or homes.Something as simple as walking instead of taking the car will help reduce pollution. As well as stopping pollution, you are giving yourself exercise, something important for our bodies. So the next time you get into your car, or your motorbike, think - do I have to make this journey by vehicle or can I walk? When you are at home, and your getting a little cold. Put a jumper on and do not adjust the heating. The extra heat produced by our homes also affects the planet. So try wearing an extra layer in winter. If possible, buy your fruit and vegetables from local suppliers. And try to avoid imported goods. The more foreign food that we import the more pollution from aeroplanes and boats it will create.Keeping to the speed limit can also help the environment. The more you speed the more petrol you are going to use, making the pollution higher. Also, SUV’s make about six times their own weight in CO2 each year. A small efficient diesel car covering the same distance not only uses much less fuel; it makes two thirds less.If possible use solar energy, after all it is free; all you need to buy is the equipment. You can get much of your hot water and heating from the sun and even generate electricity. Reduce, reuse and recycle. Only buy what you need; don’t stock the cupboards with things you may or may not use. Reuse whatever you can, like containers and paper, and recycle what you cannot reuse. It really is as simple as that. Finally turning off unused sources of power such as televisions and heaters will help the environment, as well as save you money. If everybody stuck to these rules, we would be doing a great thing by protecting the earth. So please take into consideration what I have said, and try to do your part. After all, it will be our next generation that will feel the effects.

关于环境的英语演讲稿

保护环境英语演讲稿We live in the world every day. We eat food, drink water, wear clothes, watch TV, use computers and so on. We are producing waste every moment.Generally speaking, there are four sorts of waste. They are material waste, organic waste, inorganic waste and poisonous & harmful waste. Now, we are going to talk about each sort of waste one by one.Material waste: it means the waste of substance or things from which something else can be made. For example, people throw away the used metal products and buy a new one, so the old metal waste accumulates. At last, they become waste. For example, when people finish reading newspaper, the paper will become waste. When the glass is broken, it also becomes waste. Nobody wants to use a broken window or drink with a broken glass or wear a pair of broken glasses. Once it is broken, it becomes waste. The rate of using plastics is increasing day by day. People use plastic bags because they are convenient. When they get home, they throw the plastics way, paying no attention to the environment. The more convenience plastics brings to us, the more plastic waste is produced. This is called “white pollution” as most plastics are white. Some of our products we use every day are made of rubber, just like the tyres and the bottom part of our shoes. It’s true that rubber plays an important role in our life. However, it also brings us some trouble when it has been used for a long time and becomes old. The old tyres become waste because it can’t break down by nature. This is really a big problem.

Loulan's disappearance:Recently, LuoBuBo environment of scientific expedition team LuoBuBo drilling for the comprehensive system of environmental science. According to preliminary infer that sometime in the qinghai-tibet plateau, with seven to eight million years ago, the rapid uplift LuoBuBo bysouthing north migration, drying, resulting in increased gradually whole lakes dry. Such an explanation is not satisfactory, Chinese academy of sciences institute of geology and geophysics ZhouKun professor argues that, uncle LuoBuBo dry complex reasons. It is a global problem, and regional issues, besides natural causes, and human factors.A global climate is dry, the big backgroundHuman and neolithic in here, the Bronze Age here, then just value population prosperous period, the temperature LuoBuBo, environment. But then, after entering cooling zone, river water environment, lakes, desert expansion. At about 2000 BC, the performance of drought in north China area in loess accumulation, ice, lakes, retreat. The disappearance of the ancient lou-lan and about in the fourth century to the han dynasty to the north (central), then it intensifies the dry periods. In fact, the dry process, not only is the ancient lou-lan and desert expansion, and successively occur in kelatongke pier, hananiah, milan, soil, and integration of khan city of wancheng etc.Second, the qinghai-tibet plateau uplift is geographyBesides global climate change, the uplift of qinghai-tibet plateau is the most important cause of regional. In seven to eight million years ago, the rapid uplift of qinghai-tibet plateau. The uplift of northwest China's climate decisive role. LuoBuBo due to the geographical location is located in east Asia and the Pacific northwest inland, every year and the Indian Ocean warm air almost all rarely reach here. When the global climate change, the east west began to appear the drought and desertification, gobi tendency. During this period, LuoBuBo started from the south to the north. 7 million years ago, when the lake near lake to the last drop dramatically. Because of the uneven terrain lake, the ancient great unity of LuoBuBo decomposing now, and manasseh kelatongke lake, north of lake and LuoBuBo larger. In regional factors, there must be worthy of note, from the remote sensing data said recently, which had a big upstream of the landslide. The landslide whole blocked river channels, which was broken LuoBuBo of water. The question now is still don't know the exact time the landslide occurred in, whether it LuoBuBo dry before remains to study.Third, LuoBuBo accelerate human developmentHuman activities on the LuoBuBo dry effect, more recent in late may. Waste water and trees are the key oasis can survive. Loulan city was established in kongquehe downstream of the water resources, there was a growing HuYangShu exuberant the materials for the building. When people in LuoBuBo edge loulan diameters for 10 million square meters of loulan city, they cut off many trees and reed, it will undoubtedly on environment. In this period, human activities and the changes of water damage, make the war and the fragile worsening ecological environment. 5 the river churchyard density, root stump male who had felt loulan survival crisis, to pray tribe to bless his sons reproduction worship. But they cut the trees, already scarce has deteriorated to the local environment. The final LuoBuBo dry, and in the tarim river upstream of the liberation of our development. When we in tarim river upstream of the tarim river after water diversion, bills, appear to flow downstream. This point in recent years from the Yellow River dry-up can get by. No water supplies because of LuoBuBo also began shrinking, eventually finally die.(中文对照)楼兰的消失: 最近,中科院罗布泊环境钻探科学考察队对罗布泊进行了全面系统的环境科学考察。

hello, everyone! today I will introduce my hometown---wenzhou to you ! Wenzhou is located at the middle section of the circum-Pacific 18,000-kilometer-long west coast of China, intersecting the two economic zones of the Yangtze River and the Pearl River Deltas. It is the economic, cultural and transport center of south Zhejiang Province. Wenzhou was once a famous town of the Eastern Ou(the eastern part of the Oujiang River valley) with a brilliant cultural history. In 192 BC it was the capital of the Kingdom of the Eastern Ou and AD 323 it became Yongjia Prefecture. It was also called the City of White Deer, for, as legend has it, when the city was being built a white deer passed by it holding a flower in its mouth. In AD 675 it began to be called Wenzhou, its name to this day. Historically, Wenzhou has been a city renowned fot its handicrafts and also as one of the birthplaces of celadon. Wenzhou's papermaking, shipbuilding, silk, embroidery, lacquerwork, as well as its shoes and leather products, achieved a fairly eminent position in the history of China. During the period of the Southern Song Dynasty, it was opened up as a foreign trade port, enjoying a reputation as p prosperous coastal city comparable to Hangzhou. Wenzhou is the hometown of Nanxi Opera or the Southern Opera. The Tale of the Pipa, written by the famous Wenzhou playwright Gao Ming in the mid-fourteenth century, has been translated into a number of foreign languages and achieved worldwide renown. Wenzhou has given birth to many outstanding prople and great scholars. Among the most famous were the philosophers of the Yongjia School as represented by Ye Shi, and the poets of the River and Lake School as represented by Yongjia's four distinguished poets during the Southern Song Dynasty, as well as Sun Yirang, Xia Nai, Xia Chengtao, Su Buqing and others of the modern era, all of whom have exerted significant influence in the history of Chinese thought, literature and science. Wenzhou derives its present name from its mild elimate. It is a part of those subtropicla maritime regions with a humid climate, noticeable for its alternating dry and monsoon periods, with distinct seasons and abundant rainfall, yet without intense heat in the summer nor bitter cold in the winter. It has an average annual temperatuer ranging between 1500 to 1900 mm and a frost-free period of 260 to 280 days. The duration of sunshine amounts to an average 1700 to 2000 hours annually.
