你可能不知道谁是柯南道尔，但你一定知道他笔下的人物，世界上最伟大的侦探——歇洛克·福尔摩斯。
这本小说可以称得上是侦探小说界的经典，因为无人不知无人不晓这一个神奇的存在。
福尔摩斯，可以衬得上是一个怪人，只要是关乎他的职业所需的知识，他可以跟你说上三天三夜，但，对于和职不相干的，哪怕地球是圆的，月亮是围着地球转的，地球是围着太阳转的这些三岁小孩都应该知道的只是他也是一窍不通。
不过即便如此，在推理方面他是无人能及的。
他能够一眼就看出那个送信的曾是一名海军，他能通过华生的一块怀表推断出华生哥哥的性格，甚至乎，这位哥哥是个酒鬼。
福尔摩斯重视推理，更重视亲身调查，这也是他说他哥哥即便拥有超越自己的推理能力但却不能成为侦探的原因。
与现今侦探小说不同，在那个科技并不发达的时代，没有高科技的犯罪，手法也许很简单，但却依旧扣人心弦。
而同样的，那个时代没有现在的探案技术，福尔摩斯破案纯粹是靠逻辑推理，一步一步缜密的推理无疑是将一个个本就扣人心弦的故事推向一个又一个的高潮。
我不知道在座的各位同学有多少人是看过这部推理巨著的，但是我认为，作为一本当之无愧的推理经典著作，说得再多如果没有亲自翻看那本书，是无法触摸和理解到那个属于福尔摩斯的神奇、精彩的世界的。
