1988年1月，世界卫生组织在伦敦召开“全球预防艾滋病规划”的部长级高级会议。
会议提出，把1988年作为全球防治艾滋病年；把12月1日作为全世界宣传防治艾滋病的日子，称之为世界艾滋病日（更确切的说是“世界同艾滋病作斗争日”）。
以后每年的12月1日都被作为“世界艾滋病日”，以号召全世界人民行动起来，共同对抗艾滋病。
“世界艾滋病日”的目的有四个方面： 第一， 让人们都知道艾滋病在全球范围内是能够加以控制和预防的； 第二， 让人们都知道，防止艾滋病很重要的一条就是每个人都要对自己的行为负责； 第三， 通过艾滋病日的宣传，唤起人们对艾滋病病毒感染者的同情和理解，因为他们的身心已饱受疾病的折磨，况且有一些艾滋病病毒感染者可能是被动的、无辜的； 第四， 希望大家支持各自国家制定的防治艾滋病的规划，以唤起全球人民共同行动起来支持这方面的工作。
【第一个艾滋病日】 1988年12月1日这一天，世界各国的政党领袖、精神领袖、医生、摇滚乐歌星、足球运动员和普通男女，纷纷表明了自己的看法。
在世界各国都有行动来支持这项伟大的事业。
【口号】：爱己爱人反歧视 爱己：爱自己多一些，让自己的身体更健康，令自己的心灵更美好。
爱人：爱你的伴侣，爱你的亲朋，关爱弱势群体。
反歧视：我们的敌人是艾滋病病毒，而不是感染艾滋病病毒的人。
艾滋病患者是我们的兄弟姐妹，他们的不幸需要大众的同情和支持。
艾滋病不仅损害个别人的躯体，而且损害着整个人类。
艾滋病不可怕，可怕的是人们对疾病的无知，更可怕的是由无知而造成的歧视和排斥，最可怕的则是——无知致使许许多多人置身于被感染的危险边缘而不自知。
通过网络——目前传播最广、速度最快的媒介平台，让更多的人了解及正视艾滋病。
惟有了解和正视艾滋病，人们才能够摒除歧视并体会到患者的苦痛，从而加入到关怀患者的志愿者行列；惟有了解和正视艾滋病，人们才能够自愿自觉地从自身做起预防疾病，从而更有效地控制疾病的蔓延。
【呼吁】有爱，生命才有希望，社会才有期盼，国家才会富强。

Ladies and Gentlemen , Good afternoon! I’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. today my topic is “youth”. I hope you will like it , and found the importance in your youth so that more cherish it. First I want to ask you some questions: 1、 Do you know what is youth? 2、 How do you master your youth?Youth Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind ; it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness ; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life . Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . Nobody grows old merely by a number of years . We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul . Worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust . Whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living . In the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young . When the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80. 青春表现在意志的坚强与懦弱。
想象的丰富与苍白、情感的充沛与贫乏等方面。
青春是生命深处清泉的喷涌。
青春是追求。
只有当勇气盖过怯弱、进取压倒苟安之时，青春才存在。
果如此，则60见之长者比20岁之少年更具青春活力。
仅仅岁月的流逝并不能使他们衰老。
而一旦抛弃理想和信念，则垂垂老也。
岁月只能使皮肤起皱。
而一旦丧失生活的激情，则连灵魂枯老，使人生枯如死水，毫无活力。
60岁长者也好，16岁少年也罢，每个人的内心深处都渴望奇迹，都如孩子一般眨着期待的双眼，期待着下一次，期待着生活的情趣，你我灵魂深处都有一座无线电中转站------只有你我年轻，则总能听到希望的呼唤，总能发出喜悦的欢呼，总能传达勇气的讯号，总能表现出青春的活力……… 一旦青春的天线倒下，你的灵魂即为玩世不恭之雪、悲观厌世之冰覆盖；即使你年方20.其实你已垂垂老也。
而只要你青春的天线高高耸起，就可以随时接收到乐观的电波-----即使你年过八旬，行将就木，而你却仍然拥有青春，你仍然年轻。
