罗兰·巴特在《写作的零度》谈小说与历史的关系时曾说：“小说和历史，彼此具有紧密的关系。
每个世界产生了自己的幅员和界限，并在其中安排了自己的时间、空间、人物及种种物件和神话。
” 曹文轩先生的新作《火印》是一部深刻的长篇小说，同时又像是一首史诗、一个寓言，甚至是一部神话。
或许因为它承载了英雄式的悲剧叙事，给予了我们太多关于人生意义与存在价值的思考;或许只是因为它暗涵的隐喻与训诫;亦或许因为它风格崇高、叙述庄严，本身就已是一个成熟的美学形态的范例。
翻阅小说，一种遥远恍若隔世，却又在咫尺眼前的一个虚拟时空，在我们面前显现。
虚构的人物、事件、地理空间、历史幻象，却触动了我们潜藏的集体无意识，这些未曾开垦的记忆的碎片，从脑海中跳跃出来，与现在的我们重逢。

马的主人是一个叫坡娃的孩子，他是野狐峪众多孩子中的一个，一次偶然的机会，他遇到了雪儿，并把它收养在家中。
故事就此展开，就在雪儿与坡娃一家建立起亲密感情的时候，日本人来到了野狐峪，和谐的生态、生存、生活被突然搅乱，一个叫河野的日本军官强行掳走了坡娃最疼爱的雪儿，嘶鸣、呼喊、抗争，依然抵挡不住侵略者的恶劣行径。

意念、抉择、命运，彼此互为交织，当黑暗的现实涌来的时候，雪儿、年轻士兵、坡娃终于斩断了自己软弱的情感，变得坚硬起来，把对日本兵的仇恨化作了风驰电掣般的行动，来洗血耻辱。

当一切都已完结，仇恨、悲苦、生离死别都已渐渐地远去，那结痂的伤口却还烙在人们心里，这才是最大的生之悲剧。
我们惊叹于作者的故事构架及叙事方式，在小说《火印》中，没有一个类型化的人物或场景，所有的情节进展都突破了以往抗日题材小说的套路与模式。
曹文轩写马，却是把雪儿当做有血性、有气节的人来写;写日军小兵稻叶，却着重地展现了少年心中的爱与同情，对雪儿与小马驹无微不至的照料;写男孩坡娃，写的却是异乎其他孩童的倔强、果敢与坚强。
透过沉重的情节，我们所看到的不仅是历史，还有历史中的个体与群体，人性与兽性，看到了每个人对于战争、对于家园、对于生存的态度与立场，我们更看到了战火中那难得的爱与悲悯，是重建这个世界的最后一丝亮光。
我们感动于坡娃与雪儿、雪儿与小马驹血浓于水的亲情之爱，我们感动于坡娃、草灵、瓜灯纯粹的情谊，感动于相亲父老在国破家亡的危急关头依然的傲骨与凌冽的血气，我们也感动于日本兵稻叶对于雪儿母子的细心照料。
爱对于战争来说无济于事，但重建家园却不能不依靠爱与信任。
爱抚慰了凝结的伤痛，爱的暖流溶化了冰封的岁月，让经历创痛的生者重新点燃了继续生存下去的希望之光。
作者没有粉碎用爱构建的世界，战争过后，残存的野狐峪正是在爱的曙光中重建起来。
