到了汉朝，汉武帝也是为了加强防御，“不叫胡马度阴山”，修筑了一条近两万里的长城，同时这也保护了新开发的丝绸之路，汉长城是秦长城的一道前沿阵地和防线，它西起新疆，东到辽东，它是中国历史上修筑长城最长的朝代。
