It is the largest and most well reserved imperial residence in China today. Under Ming Emperor Yongle, construction began in 1406. It took 14years to build the Forbidden City. The first ruler who actually lived here was Ming Emperor Zhudi. For five centuries thereafter, it continued to be the residence of23 successive emperors until 1911 when Qing Emperor Puyi was forced to abdicate the throne. 现在我们来到了回澜阁。
它是一座就有民族风格的两层八角凉亭，彩色琉璃瓦覆盖，24根红漆柱子支撑，阁心有螺旋形楼梯，楼上四周为琉璃窗，有“一窗一景，一景一画”之说。
匾额上“回澜阁”三个字最初是由原青岛上长沈鸿烈题写的，现为著名书法家舒同所题。
