Dali is a world –famous tourist attraction. It is rich in cultural heritages and tourist resources. Dali is widely claimed as “the Oriental Switzerland”, “the Chinese Geneva” and “the Pearl on the Yunnan Plateau”. Each year, it attracts thousands of tourists both at home and from abroad to pay a visit. And we are all familiar with the saying: wind, flowers, snow and the moon, which refers to the snow on Cangshan mountain, the moon of the Erhai Lake, the wind of Shangguan county and the flowers in Xiaguang county. There are regarded as the best sight of Dali. OK, everyone, we are now arriving at the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple. It is the oldest and grandest Buddhist architecture in south China.Simultaneously,it is the cultural relic under national protection. The three pagodas are the sole building of Chongsheng temple which is located in the piedmont of Cangshan mountain and the proximity of Erhai Lake. It is because the temple has gone through the earthquake and been ruined. In Chinese it means admiring the Godness of Mercy.Crossing this plaza we will be in the temple. See ,the three pagodas stand there. The major Pagoda, called Qianxun Pagoda,is built during the period of NanZhao State, stands 69 meters in height and is divided into 16 stories. Each story is inlaid with the statues of Buddha. In the front of it , four Chinese characters are quite striking, meaning “Ensuring Tranquility to Mountains and Rivers Forever.” According to this, we can conclude that one of the reasons to built this pagoda is to prevent disasters.I am sure you have noticed the two small pagodas. They were built at the beginning of 10th century during which is Dali State. Each stands 42 meters in height and is divided into 10 stories. They are made from bricks. The three pagodas ars the symbol of Closed Eaves Pagoda. They are big in height. On the other hand, they are even-numbered ,quite different from inland odd-numbered pogadas. They also present us the curvilinear beauty of architecture, they taper toward toward the top, contract curvilinearly from the middle part. So, that’s the question, do you know the function of the pagoda? Yes,in antient times, it was the symbol to prevent disasters and evils, at the same time, it indicated to spread and popularize Buddhism.Nowadays, we can also regard it as a decoration of landscape. The three pagodas have a history of more than 1,000 years. They have witnessed the triumph and disaster of the society.Still, the three pagodas stand firm and erect. They clearly show us the exquisite and superb craftsmanship of the ancient Chinese architecture. In recent years, the local government renovated the three pagodas. During the renovation, inside the major pagoda lots of treasures were found: Buddhist Sciptures, gold, silver, bronze and iorn wares, pearl, agate, amber, jade and some herbs, totaling more than 600 pieces. The three pagodas make a beautiful picture, which resemble the three legs of a tripod. Seen from a far distance, you will have such a feeling that how can this miracle exist in this world. Every time when I see them, I always wondered that. They are really the masterpiece of Bai people.[Jianji Bell] Ok, follow me, please! Here you can see a bell. The original one was cast in Jianji Period of Nanzhan Kingdom. However, it is destroyed in Qing Dynasty. In 1997, in order to celebrate the returning of HK, the government financed to rebuild the present one which is 3.86 meters in height and 16 tons in weight, ranking the first in Yunnan and fouth in China.[The Copper Rain Statue of Goddness of Mercy] This way, please, everyone. Now we can see The Copper Rain Statue of Goddness of Mercy. It is a rebuilt one, the original one was destroyed in the Great Cultural Revolution. This statue is different from other statues around China. What’s the difference? Please look at it clearly. It is a combination of man’s body and woman’s face. How distinctive!
