Each story is inlaid with the statues of Buddha. In the front of it , four Chinese characters are quite striking, meaning “Ensuring Tranquility to Mountains and Rivers Forever.” According to this, we can conclude that one of the reasons to built this pagoda is to prevent disasters.I am sure you have noticed the two small pagodas. They were built at the beginning of 10th century during which is Dali State. Each stands 42 meters in height and is divided into 10 stories. They are made from bricks. The three pagodas ars the symbol of Closed Eaves Pagoda. They are big in height. On the other hand, they are even-numbered ,quite different from inland odd-numbered pogadas. They also present us the curvilinear beauty of architecture, they taper toward toward the top, contract curvilinearly from the middle part. So, that’s the question, do you know the function of the pagoda? Yes,in antient times, it was the symbol to prevent disasters and evils, at the same time, it indicated to spread and popularize Buddhism.Nowadays, we can also regard it as a decoration of landscape. The three pagodas have a history of more than 1,000 years. They have witnessed the triumph and disaster of the society.Still, the three pagodas stand firm and erect. They clearly show us the exquisite and superb craftsmanship of the ancient Chinese architecture. In recent years, the local government renovated the three pagodas. During the renovation, inside the major pagoda lots of treasures were found: Buddhist Sciptures, gold, silver, bronze and iorn wares, pearl, agate, amber, jade and some herbs, totaling more than 600 pieces. The three pagodas make a beautiful picture, which resemble the three legs of a tripod.
