A fox had fallen into a well, and had been casting about for a long time how he should get out again, when at length a goat came to the place, and wanting to drink, asked Reynard whether the water was good, and of there was plenty of it .The fox, dissembling the real danger of his case, replied :"come down, my friend, the water is so good that I can not drink enough of it, and so aboundant that it can not be exhausted ."Upon this the goat without any more ado leaped in, when the fox, taking advantage of his friend's horns, as nimbly leaped out, and coolly remarked to the poor deluded goat :"if you had half as much brains as you have beard, you would have looked before you leaped."

No sooner did the lion see that they avoided one another ,and fed each by himself apart ,than he fell upon them ,and so made an easy prey of them all.

A jackdaw, as vain and conceited as jackdaw could be, picked up the feathers which some peacocks had shed, stuck them amongst his own, and despising his old companions, introduced himself with the greatest assurance into a flock of those beautiful birds .They, instantly detecting the intruder, stripped him of his borrowed plumes, and falling upon him with their beaks sent him about his business .The unlucky jackdaw, sorely punished and deeply sorrowing, betook himself to his former companions, and would have flocked with them again as if nothing had happened .But they, recollecting what airs he had given himself, drummed him out of their society, while one of those whom he had so lately despised, read him this lecture ："Had you been contented with what nature made you, you would have escaped the chastisement of you r betters and also the contempt of you r equals。”

伊索寓言：龟兔赛跑（The hare and the tortoise）
The hare was once boasting of his speed before the other animals. "I have never been beaten," he said, "when I run at full speed, no one is faster than me."
The tortoise said quietly, "I will race with you." "That is a good joke," said the hare. "I could dance around you the whole way."
The race started. The hare darted almost out of sight at once. He soon stopped and lay down to have a nap.
The tortoise plodded on and on. When the hare awoke from his nap, he saw the tortoise was near the finish line, and that he had lost the race.
龟兔赛跑
●兔子向动物们夸耀他的速度，“我从来没有失败过，”他说，“当我奔跑时，没有人比我更快。”

伊索寓言：狮子与报恩的老鼠（The lion and the mouse）
When a lion was asleep, a little mouse began running up and down beside him. This soon wakened the lion. He was very angry, and caught the mouse in his paws.
"Forgive me, please." cried the little mouse. "I may be able to help you someday." The lion was tickled at these words.
He thought, "How could this little mouse help me?" However he lifted up his paws and let him go.
A few days later, the lion was caught in a trap.
The hunters wanted to take him alive to the king, so they tied him to a tree, and went away to look for a wagon.
Just then the little mouse passed by, and saw the sad lion.
He went up to him, and soon gnawed away the ropes. "Was I not right?" asked the little mouse.

Next day,the Scots lords came from Edinburgh.They were pleased to see me,and for a week everyone was happy.People smiled at me and sang in the streets.I think everyone liked me.Then,that Sunday,I went to church.

People were angry because of that.A man called John Knox came to see me.He was a famous Protestant churchman,but I didn't like him.He was a big,angry man with black clothes.He hated the Catholic church,and wanted all catholics to leave Scotland.To him,the Protestant church was the only true church of God.He said:‘Your Majesty,you're a young woman,like my daughter.Women can't understand difficult thing like God or the church.Find a good Protestant husband,girl.Let him rule this country for you.’

I was very angry with this man Knox.I was a Queen,but I was only eighteen.He didn't talk quietlyhe shouted at me.I cried because of his angry words.I could not understand himhe talked so much,and he knew so many books.But I did not go to his church.

A lion once fell in love with a beautiful girl, so he went to her parents and asked them to marry her to him.
The old parents did not know what to say.
They did not like the idea of giving their daughter to the lion, but they did not want to enrage the king of beasts.
At last the father said, "We are glad to marry our daughter to you, but we fear that you might possibly hurt her. So if you remove your claws and teeth, we will give her to you."
The lion loved the girl very much, so he trimmed his claws and took out his big teeth. When he came to the parents again, they simply laughed in his face, and beat him out of their house.

寓意: 有些人轻易相信别人的话，抛弃自己的长处，结果轻而易举地被原来害怕他们的人击败了。
1、有匹吃大麦长大的骡子很强壮。每当他跳跃时，总是自言自语说：“我父亲一定是一匹能奔善跑的马，我非常像他。”有一天，因为需要，骡子不得不被拉去不停地跑路。回来后，他才愁眉苦脸地想起自己的父亲是驴子。
2、有人雕刻了一个赫耳墨斯的木像，拿到市场去卖。因为没有一个买主上前，他便大声叫喊，想招揽生意，说有赐福招财的神出售。
3、一头牛到水潭边去喝水，踩着了一群小蛙，并踩死了其中一只。
4、夏天，别的动物都悠闲地生活，只有蚂蚁在田里跑来跑去，搜集小麦和大麦，给自己贮存冬季吃的食物。屎壳郎惊奇地问他为何这般勤劳。蚂蚁当时什么也没说。
5、乌龟与兔为他们俩谁跑得快而争论不休。于是，他们定好了比赛的时间和地点。比赛一开始，兔觉得自己是天生的飞毛腿，跑得快，对比赛掉以轻心，躺在路旁睡着了。乌龟深知自己走得慢，毫不气馁，不停地朝前奔跑。结果，乌龟超过了睡熟了的兔子，夺得了胜利的奖品。
6、为了争占母鸡，两只公鸡打了起来，其中一只把另一只打跑了。那只被打败的只好躲进有遮盖的地方，那只打胜的却飞到高墙上大喊大叫。这时一只鹰猛飞过来，将他抓了去。这以后，那只被打败的公鸡平平安安地占有了那些母鸡。
7、不久，鹰的背信弃义的罪行也受到了严惩。有一次，一些人在野外杀羊祭神，鹰飞下去，从祭坛上抓起了带着火的羊肉，带回了自己的巢里。这时候一阵狂风吹了过来，巢里细小干枯的树枝马上燃起了猛烈的火焰。那些羽毛未丰的雏鹰都被烧死了，并从树上掉了下来。狐狸便跑了过去，在鹰的眼前，把那些小鹰全都吃了。
8、冬天，农夫发现一条蛇冻僵了，他很可怜它，便把蛇放在自己怀里。蛇温暖后，苏醒了过来，恢复了它的本性，咬了它的恩人一口，使他受到了致命的.伤害。
9、房里有蜜漏流出来，许多苍蝇便飞去饱餐起来。蜂蜜太甜美了，他们舍不得走。然而，就在这时他们的脚被蜜粘住，再也飞不起来了。
10、公山羊觉得口渴极了，来到这井边，看见狐狸在井下，便问他井水好不好喝?
11、狗叼着肉渡过一条河。他看见水中自己的倒影，还以为是另一条狗叼着一块更大的肉。想到这里，他决定要去抢那块更大的肉。于是，他扑到水中抢那块更大的。结果，他两块肉都没得到，水中那块本来就不存在，原有那块又被河水冲走了。
12、狗与公鸡结交为朋友，他们一同赶路。到了晚上，公鸡一跃跳到树上，在树枝上栖息，狗就在下面树洞里过夜。
13、田鼠跟随家鼠来到城里，家鼠给田鼠看豆子和谷子，还有红枣、干酪、蜂蜜、果子。田鼠看得目瞪口呆，大为惊讶，称赞不已，并悲叹自己的命运。
14、不久，狮子真的被老鼠救了性命。原来狮子被一个猎人抓获，并用绳索把他捆在一棵树上。老鼠听到了他的哀嚎，走过去咬断绳索，放走了狮子。
