首先凶手光顾了大卫的家，杀死了他怀孕的妻子，并把他妻子的头砍下来放入纸箱中作为快递邮寄出去，然后凶手自己到警察局投案，并以此为条件要求大卫和威廉和他一起来到荒野中，等快递车的运达。
快递车到达以后，快递纸箱被威廉打开并看到了里面的头颅。
凶手之所以这么做是因为他自己首先犯下了七宗罪中的“妒忌”，他妒忌大卫的美满家庭（凶手从小没有享受到来自亲人的温暖，直到中年仍然孤身一人），进而杀死了大卫的妻子。
他需要有人处决自己，就精心安排了这一系列的计划。
大卫知道妻子被杀后，悲愤交加，不顾威廉的劝阻下还是杀死了凶手，警察输了，凶手赢了，大卫终于犯下了“愤怒”这项罪名，七宗罪最终还被凑齐了。
