竖锯只是想给他们上一课，所以机关都是可以破的，然而他的徒弟们却很极端往往把人逼上绝路，所以这个游戏令人感到血腥。
另外，竖锯本意是好的，只是徒儿们不理解，认为这个游戏必须要死人滴。

从乐观的角度来讲，无辜的人死去是和约翰没有关系的，就是说那都是他的徒弟干的，当然我不完全认同这个看法，有时给测试者选择谁死亡的关卡那些人要么就是并非真正好人或者说约翰真的自封上帝，觉得让人变好就需要有牺牲。
也有权强制无辜的人牺牲从一看到七感觉就是一场空，外面的世界再黑暗，因果循环自会有个结果，但并非是这种人为的矫正人性，最后那个鲍比的老婆死的很无辜，还有那个女警官凯莉也是，所以老头肯定不是好人，但某种意义上来说他的出发点是好的，只是这种决策真的太偏激，谁也没有主宰他人性命的资格，无论那人是好是坏。
