哑剧小史哑剧的历史悠久，源远流长，尽管哑剧在英国有自己的传统，但究其起源毕竟还是国际的，它的许多故事情节都来自于世界各地。
“哑剧”一词源出于希腊语，意思是“模仿者”。
显然，其最初之意是指表演者，而不是指剧种本身。
事实上，这种表演方式远在古代的中国、波斯及埃及就有了。
在，哑剧最受欢迎。
随着罗马帝国的衰落，哑剧也销声配迹。
到了十五世纪，一个与哑剧类似的新剧种又开始问世于意大利。
在这些剧中，人们第一次看到了头戴面具、身穿五颜六色服装的滑稽角色(或叫丑角)，不久这一角色又从法国传到英国——开始是作为哑剧演员，然后又作为说话的演员出现于英国舞台。
大约是在一百年以前，人们才首次根据童话题材来作为哑剧的故事情节。
那时剧中仍然有一个滑稽角色，不过，这种剧当时被称为“以丑角表演为主的戏”。
到了十九世纪末叶，演出变得更为复杂化——开始出现了有新式的和机械操纵的。
到这个时候，更多的杂剧演员也投入了哑剧演出的行列之中。
今天，哑剧仍然在变化发展着，许多演出中已出现歌’曲、笑话或来自影视中的人物。
