法律有母债子偿的说法
从角度讲，子代替父债务的法律义务；但在以下情子应当代替父亲偿还债务：1、接受了父亲的赠与，造成父亲的债务不能偿还，不论这种赠于是有意识还是无意识；2、从父亲那里继承了遗产，在接受遗产范围内，承担债务；3、父亲借的债务是用于家庭共同生活，特别是用于子的生活，而子又是与父亲一起生活。

作为继承人你完全可以根据自己继承遗产的情况, 来决定是否需要偿还父亲生前所欠债务的数额。
如果你愿意偿还父亲的旧债,就不用受遗产实际价值的限制了。
综上, “父债子还”的说法是不对的。
