This speaking contest is organized by the English department and the contestants are all freshmen majored in English. The contest is one of a series of activities the English department holds for its students. Later on, there will be English debate, English drama evening and so on. Now today, we are holding the English contest here, Today, we hope the contestants can make the most out of this opportunity and present the best of themselves. First, let me introduce our judges. ------------- Welcome and thanks to our judges! Ok, now let us introduce the process and rules of the contest.It is made up of three parts.The first part is the prepared speech. The titles are given before the contest, each speaker will give a speech lasting about three and a half minutes without referring to notes. One of the titles is Talent Shows in My Eyes and the other is A Day Spent with A. A could be anything or anyone;the second part is the impromptu speech. Each contestant will choose randomly out of a bunch of topics 5 minutes before going onto the stage. After giving the prepared speech, the contestant should present the chosen topic to the us and we will announce it to you. The time limit for this part is 2 minutes. the last part is the question-and-answer session. One judge, that is, one foreign teacher, will put one question to the contestant. The question can relate to the speaker’s either speech, prepared or impromptu. We will anounce the scores of all contestants before the awarding ceremony, so as to make the contest more transparent.
