By following these simple suggestions, you will save money on your water bill while conserving the supply we all depend on. Vegetables and fruit should be washed in a bowl rather than under a running tap and the leftover water can be used for watering plants. Never put water down the drain when there may be another use for it such as watering a plant or cleaning. Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Do not use your toilet as a wastebasket. Dispose of tissues, insects and other such waste in the trash rather than the toilet. Take shorter showers. Do not let water run while shaving, brushing your teeth or washing your hair or face. Recently, Singaporeans were urged to shower a minute less as part of a national water conservation effort. Operate automatic dishwashers and clothes washers only when they are fully loaded or properly set the water level for the size of load you are using. Many silent leaks allow water and your money to go down the drain. Verify that your home is leak-free, because many homes have hidden water leaks. Check your water meter for any possible leaks.
