History of Women in EducationIn order to understand the women education movement, it is important to have a brief background of its history. During the time of the ideal subservient woman a few bold women and events stand out as milestones in history. The first is in 1833; Oberlin College was founded. It was the nations first university to accept women and black students. The next important event was the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848. This convention added fuel to the flame of education and suffrage. The Seneca Falls Declaration has been called he single most important document of the nineteenth-century American woman抯 movement? At the convention a declaration concerning women抯 rights was adopted modeling the Declaration of Independence. Appearing in addition to issues of suffrage were issues of education and employment. The Declaration of Sentiments states: He has monopolized nearly all the profitable employments, and from those she is permitted to follow, she receives but a scanty remuneration. He closes against her all the avenues to wealth and distinction, which he considers most honorable to himself. As a teacher of theology, medicine, or law, she is not known. He has denied her the facilities for obtaining a thorough education - all colleges being closed against her. (Schneir 77) This event is of utmost importance to the women抯 rights movement. It laid the foundation for future achievements even though suffrage was not achieved until 1920. After the Seneca Falls Convention women continued to achieve milestones in education. In 1877, Helen Magill became the first woman in the United States to earn her Ph.D. By 1880, women comprised eighty percent of all elementary school educators, and by 1910 women made up 39 percent of all collegiate undergraduate students and even 20 percent of all college faculty. Finally, in 1920 women抯 suffrage was achieved, giving women a secure foothold in society. In 1945, the first woman was accepted to Harvard Medical School, and by 1972 Title XI was passed to help end the discrimination based on sex for any educational program that received federal funding. In 1980 women equaled men in numbers enrolled in colleges with 51 percent. Finally, in 1996 Virginia Military Institute was forced by the Supreme Court to become coeducational (Eisenmann appendix). There are many other events along the path to education that helped women achieve the status they enjoy today. This brief chronology merely traces a few of the hundreds of thousands of victories women had to win in order to become educated. The right to become educated has been long sought after by women. The history of women education parallels the beginning of feminism. Women have made huge strides toward receiving an equal education, but there is still much work to be done. This revolution is far from over. Material gains have been made, but an inequality of expectations and results of education for men and women remains.

求英语演讲稿(有关中小学教育)

写得有点长 前半段其实已经可以了 而且词汇不难 后半段是个人经历 你可以略去 词汇也有些难 你适当舍取就好了my opinion on elementary school education---the exam systemIn China, children are always supposed to finish primary school. In this stage, they are taught elementary knowledge in language and science, which lays the foundation for their further education.I remember back to when I was in elementary school, and I didn't stress like the kids do in elementary school do these days. Today, in schools across the nation, administrators say stuff like, If you don't pass this test, you can't go to the next grade. Yeah, I remember hearing that, but I was in seventh grade, not first. I don't think kids should be told they cannot go to the next grade if they don't pass a test. Why did elementary school have to become a place where kids are always stressed? If young children are being stressed now, at such a young age, this just might be a contributing factor to the problem with obesity among small children. These kids are probably so stressed that they don't want to participate in sport related activities and want to eat unhealthy foods. I, for one, am not a good test taker, but I do the homework. If a kid is bad at taking tests, but they have good grades, don't they deserve to pass the grade or class? This is ridiculous to me, so what if kids have certain disorders that set them back? In my opinion, I feel like these little kids are being pushed too hard; if I were pushed that hard, it would make me crazy. They deserve the chance to have a little fun. My experience during elementary was a pleasant one, I loved everything about my life at that time. I had fun learning, and I didn't have to freak out about major tests that are required of myself now. Children now should have that same experience, instead of being stressed. Administrators are so strict, and I believe they should be to a certain extent, but they need to know when to let up on the children a little. What I mean by this is, they don't need to scare them by telling them that they can't go to the next grade because of one test. It is silly. One test shouldn't determine whether they go on to the next grade or not. I'm not quite sure about the federal education program, No child left behind. The program's name seems ironic to me, in that administrators are, in fact, threatening to leave them behind, that is, not let them progress to the next grade. When a child is held back a grade, the consequences are devastating; they get separated from their current friends and classmates, and are teased and made fun of by their new classmates.I just hope that stressing doesn't get so bad their physical or mental health declines. I can only imagine how they will be when they get to college. After primary school, they go to junior middle school without having to pass any exams if either will be ok. Education at this level is compulsory. Now in our country, we go to school during each semester will have a fixed test. To some degree, it annoy anyone even a straight-A student, cause there always someone ahead you and keep you in the dust of despire.I think China must change the exam system, if not, our country must lose many genius. Many of the children in order to the university entrance exam to abandon their dreams.I don’t like Education System in China. In my opinion, We should relieve our children of their heavy academic burdens and encourage them to be active, imaginative and creative. I think it’s a long and hard way. Nobody can deny the function of education.

关于中国教育的英文演讲稿

Ladies and Gentlemen, Comrades and Friends, As the clock counts down the few remaining hours to the Year 2005, through China Radio International, China National Radio and China Central Television, I am very delighted to extend my best wishes to Chinese people of all ethnic groups, people in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, and in Taiwan, overseas Chinese and friends of all countries in the world. In 2004, Chinese people worked hard and made new strides in creating a well-off society in an all round way, and pushing forward the country's socialist modernization drive. This year, guided by the Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents, we set up a human-oriented and sustainable development concept. We have deepened our reform and opening-up, promoted economic development and maintained social stability. The national economy has maintained a good growth; the construction of a political and spiritual civilization has made new achievements; and Chinese people's lives further improved. At the Fourth Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, we summarized our experience in governance and mapped out a blue print for further improving our governing capability. At present, the Chinese people of all ethnic groups are working hard to achieve national prosperity and rejuvenation, social harmony and people's well-being In the past year, we held high the banner of promoting peace, development and cooperation, adhered to the independent foreign policy of peace, and adhered to peaceful development. We made great efforts to safeguard world peace and promote common development by playing a constructive role in a series of important issues concerning world peace and regional development. And we have also promoted friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and many other countries around the world. Ladies and Gentlemen, Comrades and Friends! 2005 will be the final year of China tenth five-year development plan. It will also be an important year in building a well-off society in an all round way. We will observe the concept of scientific development, concentrate on economic development, continue to strengthen and improve macro-controls, accelerate economic restructuring, promote reform and opening-up, strive to achieve a rapid and stable development of the economy, push forward the construction of political and spiritual civilization, try to create a harmonious society and push forward the cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. In handling the affairs of Hong Kong and Macao, we will continue to implement the principles of One Country, Two Systems, Hong Kong People Governing Hong Kong, Macao people Governing Macao and a High Degree of Autonomy, and strictly observe the Basic Law on Hong Kong and the Basic Law on Macao. We will support the chief executives and regional governments of Hong Kong and Macao in governing their respective regions by law. We will also tighten economic and trade links between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong and Macao, while maintaining the long-term prosperity and stability of the two regions. We will adhere to the principle of One Country, Two Systems and the Eight-Point Proposal to promote the exchange of people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits as well as economic and cultural exchange across the Straits. We will make every effort with our utmost sincerity to achieve a peaceful reunification of the country. We are willing to resume cross-strait dialogue at an earliest possible date on the basis of the One China principle. However, we will never allow anybody to separate Taiwan from China. Here I would like to once again call on all Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots, to unite in their opposition to and contain secessionist forces and Taiwan independence, in order to realize national reunification as soon as possible. Ladies and Gentlemen, Comrades and Friends! The world is undergoing profound changes, but peace and development is still the theme of the era. The trends of world multi-polarization and economic globalization are developing with twists. Science and technology are progressing every day, bringing new opportunities for all countries around the world. However, some unstable and uncertain factors to world peace and development are also on rise, with regional conflict, terrorism, the gap between north and south, environmental degradation, and trade barriers challenging world peace and development. Maintaining world peace and promoting common development is the shared goal of people in all countries. The Chinese are willing to work with everyone in the world to promote the establishment of a new international political and economic order that is just and rational, promote democratization of international relations, respect diversities in the world, help establish a new security concept and endeavour to realize a balanced and sustainable development of the world economy. Chinese people are deeply sympathetic to people still suffering from warfare, conflicts, hunger and poverty. We sincerely hope they will walk on the road of peace and development as soon as possible; and we are willing to do what we can in providing assistance in this regard. I believe that as long as people around the world and politicians with vision give the future of humanity and common interests top priority while seeking peace and development through cooperation and jointly overcoming difficulties on the road of development, we will be able to create a better future for human kind. 我水平不好,这太难了。
