他被姨夫收养过了一个很委屈的童年，表哥达力总是仗着个头大欺负他，就这样过了11年。
在他11岁生日时，发生了一件不平凡的事，改变了他的一生。
一个表面恐怖实际很温柔的看守海格给他送去了一封魔法学校录取信，证明他从一出生就是一个巫师的命运。
他很高兴的入了学，也知道了对角巷等一系列的巫师世界的事物。

本书具有传奇色彩，仿佛裹着一副神奇的面纱，读完后我仍是回味无穷，哈利那种遇到困难勇不放弃的精神深深感动了我。
文中大致讲了这样一件事：一岁的哈利波特父母不幸去世，哈利只好来到姨妈家过日子。
姨妈家经济有限，哈利一直过着贫穷劳苦的日子。
直到十一岁时，哈利收到了一份神秘的信，信中人邀请他去一个神秘的魔幻世界里——霍格沃茨魔法学校。
