However, before transforming the dream into reality, the benefits and drawbacks of bidding for the Olympics should be weighed carefully. Hosting the Olympics surely would bring about much gain to a city. Boom of the local economy, more jobs, and the possibility of generating income all sound extremely attractive to the municipal government. At the same time, better infrastructure, cleaner environment, enjoying the spectacular game with hundreds of sports elites and entertainment stars, and the opportunity of contacting people from all over the world also seem exciting to the citizens. Besides, the bidding will definitely promote the patriotic emotion and pride, as well as the moral behavior in local people. In most cases, bidding for the Olympics is well supported by both the public and the central government. Unfortunately, this is not the entire view of the pretty picture. If looking from another angle, the Olympic bid might bring about some side-effects to a city. First of all, the environmental impacts, including the increasing exhaust fumes of cars, more pressure on water resources, huge amount of wasted leaflets and other materials used for public activities, are most probably neglected. In order to broaden the streets, some trees may have to be cut. Near the construction site, the tiny dust may linger in the air for a long time. Reduction of farmland may be caused by the need of setting up new sports centre or accommodation facilities. These environmental consequences can be especially serious in a resource-limited and densely-populated city in a third-world country. Besides, if talking about the economic benefit, it should not be forgotten that a quick boosting may lead to bubble growth, which may easily crash. If not well managed and organized, the big event may not be so profitable, and the new facilities may be forever empty after the games. Yes, there have been cases that host cities ended up with enormous debts. Finally, let’s think about the low-income groups in the city. What will they get from the Olympics bidding? More tax, more fees, more expensive property prices, and higher cost of living. These definitely are not good news for them. To bid or not to, this is a question. It is up to the choice of the municipal government, and the local public. After the decision, what they can do is to make the most of the benefit, and reduce the drawbacks to the least. 两篇应该够用了吧

Beijing Olympics showcases a mature ChinaFor most of the people, the Beijing Olympics was unforgettable. They will remember Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps, and those athletes who won their countries' first ever medals. The Chinese will remember most not the record of 51 gold medals, but the jubilant 16 days they presented to the outside world.From Aug. 8 to 24, the Games were in the world's spotlight. Besides the joy and sorrow they experienced at the sports events, visitors were entertained by the hospitable citizens and volunteers, the well-organized events, and the fantastic sports venues.These were truly exceptional Games, said International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge, before he declared the Games closed in front of 90,000 jubilant spectators in the National Stadium, or the Bird's Nest.Since the Olympic flame was extinguished on the evening of Aug. 24, the jubilant mood lingers in the hearts of ordinary people. A Beijing resident named Bu Ju remembered the excitement.When I was in the sports venues, the most English words I said were 'Where are you from', said Bu, It was like a huge international party. With economic power, China had the money for hosting the Games.In 2001, China entered the World Trade Organization (WTO), the same year it won the bid to host the 2008 Olympics.After 30 years of development, China, with a population of 1.3 billion, has really become a part of the world and the biggest stakeholder, said Hu.China adopted international practices in the Olympics. IOC officials, foreign administrative teams and foreign sponsors were engaged deeply in the Games. Foreigners are a dime a dozen here.Changes are huge compared with the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing. A veteran Chinese journalist recalled that during the Asian Games, volunteers acted like guards and policemen in front of journalists. They often stopped suspicious persons for questioning.Yet, during the 2008 Olympics, every volunteer had a smile, and journalists faced few difficulties in reporting, the journalist said on condition of anonymity.The authorities set up three designated protest zones in three parks, two in downtown and another in the outskirts of the city.The zones saw no protests. Police officials said that as the government resolved the complaints after negotiations with applicants, the would-be protesters withdrew their applications.While being proud of leading the gold medal count, the Chinese showed none of the excessive nationalism feared by some foreign media before the Games. I n the twenty-first century, environment is becoming more and more important, so we have Green Olympic as a slogan. Of course slogan is just a goal, the most important thing is we should do some things to make it true. Such as assort the trash, save the energy and so on. We are still students now, so we cant do anything really big. But if everybody does something good for our environment we could make Beijing more beautiful. In fact the things we can do are easy. Like not littering the useless batteries everywhere, assort the trash which we want to throw away, and also protect the animals and plants around us, because they are important parts of the energetic Beijing. Luckily I had a chance to take part in an activity that is we planted 5 trees in our campus. My classmates and I worked very hard. This activity doesnt only plant trees, but also contribute to our environment. Look at the trees, I believe, tomorrow there will be more trees and flowers standing in Beijing and give Beijingers a beautiful environment. We are all Chinese people, live on the earth. We have only one capital, just like we have only one earth. If we dont beautify our environment, who will? Good environment depends on good human consciousness. We should say that protecting our surroundings is not easy. Thats why Im standing here to summon people do it.
