Xiamen is a well-known tourist port city in the Southeast coast of China. It is one of the Cleanest Cities of China, the Garden Cities of China, the National Environmental Protection Model Cities, and the best sightseeing cities in China. Not only being wealthy with travel resources, Xiamen has also temperate weather, fast and convenient transport and communication, and complete travel establishments. All makes Xiamen one of the most suitable cities for investors and tourists in China.Xiamen was founded in 1394 at the beginning of the Ming dynasty as a center of defense against coastal pirates. Its prosperity was due to its deepwater sheltered harbor, that supplanted nearby Quanzhou, the port that had been the center of the maritime trade with the Indies.Fujian cuisine, also called Min Cai for short, holds an important position in China's culinary art. Fujian's economy and culture began flourishing after the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). During the middle Qing Dynasty around 18th century, famous Fujian officials and literati promoted the Fujian cuisine so it gradually spread to other parts of China. Fujian cuisine comprises three branches -- Fuzhou, South Fujian and West Fujian. There are slight differences among them. Fuzhou dishes, quite popular in eastern, central and northern Fujian Province, are more fresh, delicious, and less salty, sweet, and sour; South Fujian dishes, popular in Xiamen, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou and the golden triangle of South Fujian, are sweet and hot and use hot sauces, custard, and orange juice as flavorings; West Fujian dishes are salty and hot, prevailing in Hakka region with strong local flavor. As Fujian people emigrate overseas, their cuisine become popular in Taiwan and abroad. Generally speaking, Fujian dishes are slightly sweet and sour, and less salty, and often use the red distiller's grain for flavoring. Fujian cuisine is characterized by the following four aspects: (1)Ingredients of seafood and mountain delicacies: Fujian cuisine emphasizes seafood and mountain delicacies. Fujian Province has a favorable geographical location with mountains in its north and sea to its south. Many mountain delicacies such as mushroom, bamboo shoots and tremella are often found here. The coastal area produces 167 varieties of fish and 90 kinds of turtles and shellfish. It also produces edible bird's nest, cuttlefish, and sturgeon. These special products are all used in Fujian cuisine. The local people are good at cooking seafood, featuring in methods of stewing, boiling, braising, quick-boiling, and steaming, etc. (2) Fine slicing techniques: Fujian cuisine stresses on fine slicing techniques so much that it is reputed as sliced ingredients are as thin as paper and shredded as slim as hairs. Everything sliced serves its original aroma. Fine slicing techniques may better show the aroma and texture of food. Cutting is important in Fujian cuisine. Most dishes are made of seafood, and if the seafood is not cut well, the dishes will fail to have their true flavor. (3) Various soup and broth: The most characteristic aspect of Fujian cuisine is that its dishes are served in soup. (4) Exquisite culinary art: Fujian dishes are tasty because of their emphasis on a series of delicate procession: selecting ingredients, mixing flavors, timing the cooking and controlling the heat. When a dish is less salty, it tastes more delicious. Sweetness makes a dish tastier, while sourness helps remove the seafood smell. Typical dishes are Buddha-jumping-over-the-wall, flaked spiral shell lightly pickled in rice liquor, litchi fish, and mussels quick-boiled in chicken broth, of which Buddha-jumping-over-the-wall is the most famous; the name implies the dish is so delicious that even the Buddha would jump over a wall to have a taste once he smelled it. A mixture of seafood, chicken, duck, and pork is put into a rice-wine jar and simmered over a low fire. Sea mussel quick-boiled in chicken soup is another Fujian delicacy. (以上摘选自,用英语介绍厦门)

Today I read an article about our ancestors Yao, Shun and Yu. Maybe everybody knowsthis story but I will try my best to write it in English. We may read that Yao, Shun and Yu werethe first three great kings in China’s remotepast. And they all made great influence onChinese history. So for thousands of yearsafter, all the people hope that they can havesuch kings in our country and the courtofficials would yearn for yet never get toserve monarchs such as them. As we knowvery little about them a part from legend, wecan only speculate that they were probablytribal chieftains during the transitional periodfrom primitive to slave society. It is said that Yao was a descendent of Emperor Huang. And historical recordsportray him as being open-minded asthe sky and as wise as the gods. Peopleloved him in the way sunflowers turned tothe sun and longed to see him like dryland thirsting for rain and clouds. Sucha ruler could not incur human dissent, but then an immense flood, of a scaleno smaller than that described in theBible, deluged the country. King Yaoappointed Gun to harness the flood. For nine years, Gun did all he could tostop the waters from running amok, but without success. King Yao grew fatigued after 70 yearsas monarch. He transferred power toShun, rather than his morally corrupt son.The father did not want “the people to sufferin order to benefit his son.” King Yao didn’tmake the decision imprudently: He hadobserved Shun in every aspect, evenmarrying his two daughters to Shun so asto gain a closer understanding of his moralcharacter. Shun lived up to Yao’s expectationsby accomplishing many of Yao’s hoped-forobjectives, amongst which was the tamingof the great flood. Upon taking office, King Shun killed Gun forhis dereliction, and placed Gun’s son Yu incharge of tackling the floods. Drawing lessonsfrom his father, Yu resorted to diverting, ratherthan blocking, the waters. He joined the peoplein this hard work and didn’t take time to visit hisfamily for 13 years,

Courage -- John KennedyThe courage of life is a less dramatic spectacle than the courage of a final moment; but it is no less a magnificent mixture of triumph and tragedy. A man does what he must – in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures – and that is the basic of all human morality. To be courageous … requires no exceptional qualifications, no magic formula, no special combination of time, place and circumstance. It is an opportunity that sooner or later is presented to us all. Politics merely furnishes one arena which imposes special tests of courage. In whatever arena of life one may meet the challenge of courage, whatever may be the sacrifices he faces if he follows his conscience – the loss of his friends, his fortune, his contentment, even the esteem of his fellow men – each man must decide for himself the course he will follow. The stories of past courage can define that ingredient – they can teach, they can offer hope, they can provide inspiration. But they cannot supply courage itself. For this each man must look into his own soul.
这是我以前写的一篇,如果是男学生,把里面的daughter改成sonDear Motherland,I am so proud of being a Chinese. As a daughte(or son) of the greatest country who has the long history of more than five thousand years, I am so lucky.I learn a lot from your history and culture, which are remarkable in the world. And as a result I am deeply attracted by the interesting and instructive events and historical figures. Sixty years ago, with the establishment of People's Republic of China, Chinese people started a totally new life.During the past 60 years, China became richer and stronger. Yes, we used to be treated as a weak nationality but after 60 years it is not the case any longer.Nowdays, we live a much happier life than before and this should be owed to the distribution of hundreds and thousands of pioneers who devoted themselves to the independence and improvements of China. In the 60th National Day, we must momerize these heros. For me, the best way to momerize is to study hard and master more knowledge to construct our mother country which is deeply loved by all of us.The past 60 years belongs to the heros, the constructors of China and of course, several great leaders such as Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou, and Dengxiaoping. And we are confident that we can go along their road in the future. The prosperity of motherland make it possible for all of us to improve the quality of life. Especially, for the young students like me. First, we dont need have to worry about the foods and houses like children several decades ago. We all have a happy childhood and this is help to form our active and optimistic characters. Second, state has established a relatively sound education system and thus we can receive perfect and necessary educaion. It’s of great importance for our future. Third, with the development of national economy, adults can obtain more employment opportunities and then, they may earn enough money to afford family expenditures. And children, together with their parents and grandparents, will have stable families which make all people happy. Fourth, China makes more and more communications with other countries around the world and this makes it is possible for us to know more about the world. Fifth, we also benefit from the public facilities such as transportations, stadiums and hosptials. For example, travelling becomes easier than before and we children can find a lot of place to play on. Furthermore, when we catch a cold or feel sick, we can go to hospital and be treated easily. When we want to enjoy a new film, there are many cinemas available. In a word, all these exciting changes should be owed to you, my mothercountry. As a student in the new age, I know that we are responsible for the future and development of you, my dear mother country. As for me, it’s nature to do something valuable to return you, my dear motherland. Yes, I know I am to young to make great contributions to you currently. But I have decided to be a useful person to the society in the future. To achieve this goal, I should make preparations. First, just as mentioned above, it’s obvious to study hard is of the most importance for me. Otherwise, even I really want to do something good when I grow up, I have not sufficient ability. It will be sad for me. To avoid the regret, I have to master knowledges and skills as much as I can. Second, I will always remember I am a Chinese and I am proud of this as well. If I have any chance, I will tell foreigners China is a great country and always willing to make friends with other countries.Third, I will care others more as this will help the constuction of a harmonious society. Young as I am, I should do my best to meet the calling on of you.China is another mother. I respect you and wish a better future.

Ladies and Gentlemen:How well are we in tune with the rhythm of life? In our busy day to day existence, we don’t often stop to ask ourselves this question. At least I don’t. And it wasn’t until I joined a competitive sporting event that I learned a most important lesson – we must place our mind in harmony with the natural order of things to be successful.Let me tell you what happened.I decided to take part in an International Marathon in my hometown last year. Being an ambitious person, I hoped to finish it within 5 hours, accompanied by my friend with whom I had trained. The big day finally arrived. “Ready...set...bang” And we were off.At first, we kept a rapid pace and ran nonstop. At this pace, we finished the first 20 kilometers in 2 hours and I thought running a marathon was a piece of cake. Then my running mate began to slow down. I urged him to keep running at the same pace but he said no, he wanted to conserve his energy. I felt I had partnered with the wrong person, therefore, I sprinted on and left him behind in the dust.A few kilometers later, I began to understand his strategy as my pace slowed to a jog then a walk. After that I was incapable of moving another step. I was humiliated as more and more people ran passed me. More than once I thought “Maybe I should quit.” I started to doubt my ability to finish this race.At this moment, my running mate caught up with me and slapped me on the back. “Follow me,” he shouted. He had balanced his marathon pace and was encouraged me to do the same. For the rest of this grueling contest, we walked, jogged, ran a few miles, and walked again. Slowly, painfully but hopefully this time, we established the most suitable pace within the natural flow of our physical capabilities.Eventually we accomplished our first Marathon of 42 kilometers in 4 and half hours. I asked myself, what did this marathon mean to me? My Marathon experience became an influential metaphor for my life about how we must learn to pace ourselves in everything, by being in tune with the rhythm of life.Like the tide that ebbs and flows, we must listen to advice but make our own decisions. Like the show at dawn and dusk, we must learn to balance pride and modesty. And from the way the wind can both shout and whisper, we must learn when to be strong and when to be gentle, for everything moves in its own rhythm and its own yin and yang elements. It is the interaction of these complementary extremes that produces harmony, as Laozi said, extremes meet. Since the marathon, this notion of two opposite forces working together has been my running partner, so to speak. Yin and yang exist everywhere, constantly interacting, and never existing in an absolute condition.Ladies and Gentlemen, life is like running a marathon, let us discover, define and develop a natural rhythm of life, in order to achieve both harmony and success.Thank you for listening.
