一七四五年到法国当兵，更在一七五零年时，担任路易十三御林军的外国军官，驻扎在干邑区，时常品尝白兰地，才知道拔兰地的美妙，还买了很多瓶送给故乡的亲友，亲友们对拔兰地都赞不绝口，所以成为他日经营酒业的主要原因。
李察• 轩尼诗在当兵期间，更取得“英勇证书”(CertificateonBraveandGallant)，这并成为轩尼诗酒厂的标志。
定退伍后， RichardHennessy遂在一七五七年在干邑区开始营商，至一七六五年成立轩尼诗酒厂。
成立初期，轩尼诗销量已十分卓越，当时所出口之国家以英国及其它各大城市为主，时至今日，轩尼诗销量仍然屹立领导地位。
轩尼诗当时供应皇室饮用已达26年之久，在1815年受法国皇帝KingLouisXVIII颁发书函，选为国会主要供应酒商。
当时轩尼诗在 1765年(IrishmanRichardHennessy)时代，订购记录簿，显示出订购量之多，以英国及其它各大城市为主。
级数何处来 在一八六五年的某一天，当时轩尼诗家族的 (Maurice Hennessy) 正在百无聊赖之际，偶尔望见嶯框的较位上有一粒星型图案，触发起他不如将这星加在拔兰地酒樽上意念，其后更付诸实行，将轩尼诗干邑划分一星、二星和三星之概念，使顾客更容易分辨干邑品质，成为三星干邑的创立者。
酒樽创立的传奇 说到酒樽，忘不掉轩尼诗的贡献。
在一八三零年以前，所有拔兰地产品均以木桶装载发售，因木桶表面并没有任何关于出产地、出产商及品质说明的标签，顾客无法辨别拔兰地质量。
而当时的(MauriceHennessy)慕利士轩尼诗有见于此，将这个混淆局面彻底改变，他凭个人创意而成功设计了玻璃瓶装干邑，只限于较高质素的佳酿(即现今的XO类别)，樽面更附有标签说明，让顾客能清楚辨别品质超卓的佳酿。
在一八三零年，及至首次以船运载装美酒往其它城市，延至一八五八年，酒樽的使用程度更趋普遍。
轩尼诗XO原创鼻祖 在于一八七○年酒窖主管根据(Maurice Hennessy)慕利士轩尼诗的指引，以最陈旧及上等的‘生命之水’酿制成馥郁醇厚的特级佳酿，在最初的十年里，这些珍贵佳酿只供给家人或亲友享用。
由于轩尼诗在世界屡获好评，更特别深受亚洲人士欣赏和称颂，轩尼诗定把这珍贵佳酿公诸于世，轩尼诗XO亦就此诞生。
一八八八年，正式有XO级别的拔兰地于法国售卖的记录，而轩尼诗酒厂于一九零零年，更向法国政府正式登记XO这个级别，使日后所有具同样特性的拔兰地，均须称为XO。
凭轩尼诗醇美馥香的特级品质，轩尼诗XO迅即被誉为极品干邑的指标，深受同业尊崇。
时至今日，纵使有不少自称XO的干邑产品充斥市场，若论真正XO等级干邑之创始，唯有轩尼诗XO。
故它的宣传句语上，便有“XO之原，XO之本”的口号。
高效率生产 轩尼诗拥有五百公顷的葡萄园与二十八处蒸馏所，但是，这些并没办法完全供应轩尼诗的需求，所以有二十多间葡萄园与轩尼诗签订契约，将所产的葡萄供应给它。
此外，轩尼诗公司也向其他的蒸馏业者购买所需蒸馏酒。
将这些蒸馏酒全部被装在里山产的橡树桶中，然后放置于轩尼诗二十五处地下室。
因此，该公司拥有的原酒已高达十八万桶，在酿酒业来说，是生产量最高的一家。
为保持高效率的生产，轩尼诗采用机械收割为主，其余才以人手采择葡萄。
迎合市场需要 轩尼诗在于二十世纪八十年代时，以1980年时作统计，全世界每年销量约达一亿三千万支拔兰地。
为保持轩尼诗领导地位，除了选用葡萄区上等的葡萄酿制而成，每次酿制式成的拔兰地，他们将不同干邑产区，再划分19或20种不同酒龄的拔兰地，以分别酒质及级数。
每个出口的城市所要求干邑酒质与味度也不同，例如亚洲区，以香港及中国为例，都喜好味度较甜的拔兰地。
为迎合市场的需要，每出口一个国家，就会调制不同味度。
而轩尼诗调酒师，凭他们嗅觉和味觉，与及超凡记忆力，对不同产区酒加以挑选，调制不同酒质及味度，用玻璃瓶盛载几瓶及加上标签作记录，如这味度受到当地国家欢迎，日后以这瓶作调制准则出口。
该企业品牌在世界品牌实验室（World Brand Lab）编制的2006年度《世界品牌500强》排行榜中名列第一百三十五。
