We Die for Our Dreams ——Comments on The Great It was in a book of Murakami Haruki that I knew The Great for the first time. He said that The Great was a fantastic fiction so that I immediately developed a strong interest in it. At that time I wondered that what masterpiece would be worth such compliments from an excellent writer like Murakami Haruki. It must be more than a masterpiece. I read The Great Gatsby several years ago when I was in senior high school. Actually I was reading it for fun, the reason of which is obvious that under the great pressure of schoolwork I wouldn’t spare one more hour to receive ather boring sermon from anybody. However, I found it wasn’t that attractive as I imaged so I quitted reading it after getting the superficial main idea of it. Gatsby was decisive and stupid; dream lover Daisy was vulgar and ruthless; Daisy’s husband, accordingly, was a total jerk. There are neither admirable characters r exciting plot at all. It was definitely a masterpiece but wasn’t my cup of tea. As time passed by, I realized that even the same person tended to develop an extremely different opinion towards the very book. w I read it all over again and I found something deep and thought-provoking about it. Gatsby was described as an arrogant and tasteless businessman who was quite wealthy. He held parties almost every night to gather those so-called rich and genteel people. However, real purpose was to meet first lover—Daisy who had already married another rich and famed man. As he wished, he got to meet Daisy and found that she was still in love with him. But he didn’t realize that Daisy wasn’t what she used to be. She was no longer that innocent girl who waited for her lover, full of and wishes. In the end, Gatsby died for Daisy, the woman he had loved for lifetime. With little guilt or sorrow, Daisy quickly got rid of the whole mess and moved on smoothly as if nothing has happened, as if there has never been such a man named Gatsby who was in deep love with her and died for her. Gatsby’s love story was filled with cheat and cupidity. The statement that Gatsby and Daisy were in love with each other was merely a misconception. Or rather, they used to be in love for a short period but in the end, time changed everything and true love turned out an absurd lie. From another perspective, neither of them is to blame in this tragedy named love. Daisy was a typical woman of that time, who had pretty face as well as empty brain, married a rich man, spent their life going for various parties and immoderate shopping, and turned a blind eye to their husbands’ stuff. They had original pureness and rosy dreams which finally were eroded by the onrush of depraved age. And Gatsby was just a man who was still stuck in previously romance and tried his best to earn back his lover. He was oriented, diligent and sometimes kind-hearted. He had the courage to chase his dream while most people didn’t, though his attempt ended up nothing. Somebody said that be prepared for the nothing stuff and nowhere land, and keep walking with dreams. Maybe this makes sense to some extent. Even if we can predict the end in the very beginning, we will still orient ourselves in the thick fog and move ahead until death.
Read the great Gatsby feeling The great Gatsby is the most outstanding representative of the famous writer -- F Scott Fitzgerald American made in twentieth Century. Gatsby is the twentieth Century 20's American civilization was born out of the newborn. After the first World War, vitality not hurt America entered a historical era of unprecedented prosperity. American dream like the one in the air. Colorful balloons, a generation of Americans see things in a blur, be entranced. And the great Gatsby show disillusionment America dream. This novel is condemned to Tom as the representative of the America privileged class selfish bossy, do as one pleases, with a sympathetic attitude description of Gatsby's tragedy, and pointed out that his tragedy from his life and love the illusion. The background of the novel is set in the modern USA class in the society on the white circle, the narrative started by nick. In twentieth Century twenty's America, the air was filled with the breath of singing and drinking. Gatsby exhausted all efforts to create a brand-new oneself, the America dream. As the book said, Gatsby is really great. Making however, Gatsby seems destined not belong to the forces of the upper class people. Have to say, he is very childish, naive to the others already forget the dream year after year also hide in the heart. Making making making text can be seen everywhere in the Gatsby of Daisy's infatuation. But I don't think he is really so infatuated with Daisy this person. He subconsciously recognized crush on daisy. Before he obtained wealth, Daisy means the brilliant history it has been the social acceptance . This wonderful experience the excitement he use unscrupulous divisive tactics to make money, struggling among the upper class. His success at every step to do what little one can to help called Daisy's sculpture in his heart. Imperceptibly, Daisy component becomes huge, to become his spiritual prop. Even after Gatsby yangmingliwan, he also can be used to put this dream to do so. Can say, in his day in and day out in the fantasy, Daisy has been abstracted into what he craves all good. She is a fire, she is light, she is his life significance. Making it without a doubt, this dream had died. Gates Be Ta is loyal to the last pockets of the fire of hope, so just to remember the reality, continue persistently ready to pounce on the flame for its light, but unfortunately -- in fact, it is doomed to death. makingIn this farce, the only truth is Nick. After the death of Gatsby, the former guest did not make an appearance, Daisy will accompany her husband far away, Nick pierce to the heart of the matter that the social hypocrisy and ruthless, so that readers for the Gatsby pursued inevitably burst America dream have a deep impression. At the end of the story, only Gatsby's only friend Nick understood his waiting. When Gatsby absurd was pistol shot of the moment, he's Nick moved to sit at Gatsby numerous times to cherish the memory of the long beach, the unknown world. He understood that Gatsby first recognized the daisy terminal after the wonderful surprise, all actions that Gatsby wait for Daisy to dock in blue lawn, more importantly, in his infinite sadness, Gatsby's dream has been released into the atmosphere, vaguely in the voice of a hallucination, only Gatsby dies in this chaotic world, left is the sail against the current after the setback, and he is calm and nervous waiting for love and dream of the children's eyes.
TheGreat Gatsby is written by an Amercian writer F.Scott Fitzgerald, who was born in 1896 and died in 1940.His novel In 1920,hisnovel This Side of Paradise make himvery famous. Then he published the novelThe Beautiful and Damned which was also popular among the public. In the 81stOscar Awards ceremony got three Oscar-winning films Benjamin Button was based on his short novel Benjamins Fantasy Trip adaptation. The twentieth century , theUnited States academic community selected 100 the best novels in the river ofEnglish literature . The Great Gatsbywas second. However , at the time when TheGreat Gatsby was first published in 1925 , it was not well-sold on themarket and until 17 years later , it was recognized by people . Many expertsbecame to study on it .This novel is told us the story of Nick’stone . Nick is tired of his hometown’s life in Amercia Middle West and came toNew York . Rent a small house in the suburb of West Egg . He is Daisy’s cousin. The Gatsby is his neighbor , living in luxurious . The most impressiveimpression Gatsby gave him is that he often held big parties and hang out withvarious kinds of people . Also , Gatsby is kind of mysterious to him . Later ,he knew the story between Gatsby and Daisy . They loved each other when theywere young , but because of Gatsby’s poor family , they broke up . Then hejoined the First World War. While Daisy married to rich Kids Tom. Five yearslater , Daisy and her family moved to the West from Chicago . Nick had someclose contacts with them . At that time , Gatsby made a great wealth throughsome kind of illegal means . Because of missing Daisy all the time , hefollowed Daisy came to New York and brought the villa-Gatsby Mansion which wasopposite Daisy’s house in order to have a chance to meet with her. The bigparties held every weekend were actually only for one person and he hoped toarise the lost love between them . Finally , Gatsby got the chance to meet withDaisy , but Daisy was not as innocent as he imaged , he found Daisy’s vanity ,vulgar and selfish . Gatsby’s years’ pink dream had been broken , but he stillinsisted it , still had any illusion about Daisy , and finally led to histragedy .One day , Daisy was driving Gatsby’s car and caused an accident thatkilled Tom’s mistress, but Tom and Daisy plan a plot to put the blame onGatsby. As a result , the victim’s husband shot Gatsby and the murderereventually killed himself. And Daisy and Tom were travelling to Europe . OnlyGatsby’s poor father and Nick attended at the funeral . The story ended up withthe Gatsby became victim for selfish and cruel of Daisy .Gatsby is a tragedy hero . His behavior isalways handsome and gentle . As Nick said in Chapter 3 “He smiled understandingly –much more thanunderstandingly …It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood ,believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself . And he is also astrong person who has a belief , knowing self-training when he was a boy . Hebecame wealthy through hard work and good luck . However , his dream is Daisy’slove . He indulges into his own dream in the imagination . “It has beyond her ,beyond everything .” His pursuit of his imaginary love is unpractical , but Iam also moved by his persistence of love because “Love ” is more than a luxury, but his not only heart but also was always committed the only one person .Gatsby is the typical example of the person who pursue their Amercian dream ,but he can change his fate because of a woman . That is his tragedy.Daisy can be said a half angle and halfdevil girl . She is a conservative and fickle-minded woman . At her young age ,she was even willing to abandon everything and live forever with Gatsby . Aftermarriage, she was loyal to her husband even her husband had love affairs, whichin my opinion was her tragedy .While she is also a woman who worshiped moneyand that was why she wanted to be with Gatsby . Because of her selfishness andstupidity led to Gatsby’s tragedy .The reason why Gatsby is great because he issincere and persistent waiting for his love . However , in the society wherepeople were pursuing pleasure and pride luxury , in this material-drivenenvironment , whether it is Gatsby , Daisy or Tom , their pursuit, devotion andtransfer for love were closely linked with money and social status. A personlike Gatsby had no friends except Nick , people were polite to him just becausehe was rich , he can give them some benefits .The story began in 1920s-was named by “jazz”and “money” era . It used Nick’s tone to tell the story . Happened as if isNick’s experience. It’s a unique literary vision , profoundly revealed theburst reason about Amercian Dream at Jazz and Money age . The lifestyle trendsto money worship was expressed most vividly . But it was under the cover of theselfishness and indifference of human nature .
