第一部《终结者》诞生于1984年。
第二部《终结者》诞生于1991年。
第三部《终结者》诞生于2003年。
第一个故事是1984年，最后一个故事发生在2003年，虽然整个故事跨越了19年之久，但是冷战的倾向非常明显，这个基调贯穿了整部电影。
从《终结者》编年史中，就更容易得到证明，因为故事中97年的核爆，也就是审判日，正是天网向“苏联”发射了第一枚核弹所致，而1991年苏联便已经解体，在1997年的时候苏联已经不存在了。
苏联和美国，作为两个冷战时期的对立方，其中的一个已经终结，另一个本该消失，但事实却绝非如此，美国作为世界上的唯一的超级大国，将冷战的思维充斥到全球的范围内，以他为首的北约组织不但不断东扩，侵蚀东欧地方，每一步都要置俄罗斯于死地，而且与我国的明争暗斗也越演越烈。
作为最接近终结者故事中天网的东西，也在90年后期开始实施，那就是美国人最乐于称道的便是导弹防御系统。
天网控制的是核弹，nmd控制的导弹，而导弹与核弹最大的区别在于弹头，如果导弹的弹头换成核弹，那真的是一个彻头彻尾的天网了，如果这个终结者的故事编制于2000年后，那并没有什么可以吹嘘的地方，因为人们很容易将这些事物联想到nmd上去。
而第一部终结者却诞生于1984年，和《星球大战》处于同一个时代，在故事编制的当时，并没有什么nmd和nnd，而编剧却前瞻性的编出如此精巧的故事。
SHARA与阿诺，这是我个人认为的银幕最佳情侣兼最佳搭档，虽然阿诺是机器人，但我始终认为，导演的意图是让他来代替第一集中的那个为了生下JONH而被JONH派回来的倒霉蛋的（真不知道JONH要是知道了他的父亲的真实身份会不会疯掉），有一组镜头很能说明问题，SHARA在精神病院被折磨的人不象鬼鬼不象人的时候，孩儿他爹的幻影出现了，鼓励他站起来，去战斗，“象个士兵一样
”，说完以后，幻影消失，阿诺出现在走廊上。
可以这么说，SHARA在孩儿他爸爸的鼓励下重获新生，而阿诺则是她新生以后遇上的第一个男人，当然，这么说的前提是在医院里欺负她的看守不算男人（理由很简单，他不是主角），从此以后，他们二人（或者说是一人一机）并肩作战，生死与共，这里有一个细节，在第三集里，JONH对阿诺说：“我一直把你当作我的父亲”，这句话合理的解释了在第二集的结尾处，阿诺要毁灭自己时，JONH爆发出来的歇斯底里，如果一直把阿诺简单的当作一个机器人来看的话，这样的感情未免太过，就算他们朝夕相处，出生入死，但时间毕竟太短，充其量是战友兼同志，而有了这句话以后，一切就都合理了，丧父之痛，生不如死，可以理解，顺便也就解释清楚了阿诺和SHARA如此默契之迷，SHARA需要一个坚如铁冷如冰，刀枪不入，身手矫健的伴侣，而阿诺也正巧需要一个意志坚定，视死如归，还不会拖他后腿的搭档，虽然他们之间没有爱情（不过这个也说不好），但是却有一种超越爱情的感情在里面，何况一般的情侣都不一定有他们那么默契。
阿诺在此时已经从一个简单冷酷只知道执行任务的机器人，一个“终结者”升华成为了一个有血有肉的人，他从第一集到第三集完成了一次进化，看完前面两集再看第三集，尤其能够体会到这种变化，再第三集中，阿诺在一开始就拿自己开起了玩笑，脱衣舞男拒绝阿诺的要求时说：“对我的手说”，阿诺就毫不犹豫的紧握住他的手说：“给我你的衣服”，出门的时候还从衣兜里掏出来一副超级爆笑的太阳镜戴上，偷车的时候也不会直接破坏电路，而是用了JONH在第二集中教他的办法，从遮阳板中找到了钥匙，在杀人的时候也不会面无表情的开枪，而是在开枪前先说一句：永别了，BABY
在这里，第三集中出现的终结者和第二集中的不是同一个，于是，导演让阿诺自己解释了一下：由于T-800给JONH留下了非常深刻的影响，所以在T-850的程式里被写入了一些会让JONH感到亲切的东西。
这样一来，阿诺的形象更加完整和丰满，也更容易勾起T2粉丝们的会心微笑，再说，本来这就是一部商业电影，不是科学记录片，不能用那么严谨的态度来考究它，不然的话，就太也无趣了。
故事的结尾，大家再次来到了一家工厂，T-1000被推下熔炉，灰飞烟灭，阿诺缓缓没入熔炉，并且最后一次摆出了一个“非常牛逼”的手势，至此为止，阿诺终于完成了从机器人到人的转变，因为在接下来的第三集中，阿诺就不再是纯粹的机器人了，开始会开玩笑，会说脏话了，阿诺在烈火中得到了涅磐。
无法想象当世界失去机器之时，我们被迫回到石器时代的情景，被迫一切从头开始，再一次经历千年，直到机器的重新出现。
就如同人类需要机器一样，机器也需要人类，因为所有的机器都被设计为人类能力的延伸，即使是终结者系列，那也是为了模拟人类战争需要所存在的机器，虽然它的大老板是个拟人物品。
但毫无疑问，天网本身制造的目的就是为了杀人，为了毁灭世界。
天网或许并没有拥有足够的自我意识，它只是在忠实地执行人类赋予的任务——杀人。
就像下棋程序那样，指令和命运都只有一个，那就是下棋，并且获胜，即使棋谱必须自己去拓展，而天网也是，它在拓展如何毁灭人类。
但是我有理由相信，天网终其一生都无法理解为什么人类是矛盾的。
因为连人类自己都无法理解，为什么自己渴望生存，却又在祈祷毁灭。
我认为天网可以抽象的认为是存在于人脑中的病毒，他只需控制几个超级大国的领袖，就足以改变世界。
在故事中终结者可以改变主人公的命运，他们乘坐时间机器来到过去，去解决可能发生的一切，但是存在人类头脑中的病毒，却没有终结者可以制伏，正因为如此，小到斗嘴打架，大到战争爆发，人类总是在不断的人为的制造矛盾和争端，而科幻片中的情节不断出现在现实中，这应该引起人们的注意力了。
每一部让人震撼的美国大片都会给人一种感官上的享受，同时也带给我们无限的遐想，这些故事每一个都是那么的真实，当人类部署的核弹足以毁灭地球至少3次的时候，故事中核弹爆发的一颗，火焰瞬间覆盖了整个地球，坐在电视机前的我都不禁觉得后背有些隐隐发凉，也许人类正在走向毁灭，或者说是活在毁灭边缘，如果我们不尝试着改变，人类的终结者绝对不是机器人，而是人类自己。
