路南石林位于距昆明市东100公里的路南县境内。
该县是我国岩溶地貌（也称喀斯特地貌）比较集中的地区，全县共有石林面积400平方公里。
景区由大、小石林、乃古石林、大叠水、长湖、月湖、芝云洞、奇风洞7个风景片区组成。
其中石林的像生石，数量多，景观价值高，举世罕见。
石林遍布着上百个黑色大森林一般的巨石群。
有的独立成景，有的纵横交错，连成一片，占地数十亩，上百亩不等。
只见奇石拔地而起，参差峥嵘，千姿百态，巧夺天工，被人们誉为“天下第一奇观”。
石林的主要游览区李子箐石林，面积约12平方公里，游览面积约1200亩。
主要由石林湖、大石林、小石林和李子园几个部分组成，游路5000多米，是石林景区内单体最大，也是最集中、最美的一处。
乃古石林位于“石林”以北13公里处，也叫新石林或摩寨石林，占地5000多亩，新辟游路6公里多。
