这两意是：两只老虎争斗，必然有一只要伤亡。
这两句话是从《战国策·秦策二》“虎者戾虫，人者甘饵也。
今两虎争人而斗，小者必死，大者必伤”演化而来，现在用以比喻势均力敌或势力大体相当的两雄(两个人、两种势力、两个集团、两个国家)对立斗争，不是两败惧伤，则必有亡。
因此，应当尽量避免两虎相斗，两雄并争。
勇将不怯死以苟免，壮士不毁节而求生。

怯(qie窃)死：胆小怕死。
苟免：苟且免除死亡。
