性格是天生的，但观念和习惯的形成很大程度上与父母的教育方式有关，而且通常来说，长子和长女受父母的影响相对其他子女会更深些。
(一)
故事的开头，一副淑女打扮的斯嘉丽听一对双胞胎男青年偶然提起，她所爱的艾希礼就要和另一个女孩梅兰妮订婚了。她又惊诧又痛苦，觉得心都要裂开了，很快就动身去找艾希礼，她不能就这么算了，她要挽回这一切。
斯嘉丽是家中的长女。所谓淑女，对她来说，只是外在的装饰。她的个性太强，因而生活对她来说，就是不能逆来顺受，所以她要抗争，要抢夺，总想要回她觉得她应该得到的幸福。只是，她不知道，也许一开始她就迷失了方向，也许她一直追求的一切，都只是表面的存在。人生不是只有爱情，但爱情的错误难道不会带来整个人生的错误吗?

两个女人在现实事务方面的包办，使艾希礼后来一直无所作为，使他越到后来越倾向于精神上的幻想。但梅兰妮了解了他变得越来越不合时宜的脆弱还是爱他，而斯嘉丽以为他依然还是受难的王子而在爱他，所以，实际上越到后来梅兰妮对于他的人生意义越大些。
但最后，艾希礼生活的平衡，随着梅兰妮的去世，再一次被打破了，他唯有痛苦地追问命运：为什么要这样捉弄他?
艾希礼人生的悲剧，在他当初轻易答应父母为他选择的婚姻对象时就已埋下了伏笔。人生的有些难题是不能绕开的，必须面对，绕开了，就失去了自己。假如他当初有勇气在回答父母之前，先与斯嘉丽和梅兰妮坦诚相见，再做出自己的人生选择，也许情况会好些。但他没有这样做，他当时也没有意识到，他的自以为是在他的心灵上悄悄划了一道伤痕，伤痕虽然不深，却会一直难以愈合，他本身的主动面对人生挑战的勇气将因此一点点流失，最后，使他趋于平庸。

斯嘉丽对艾希礼的固执的迷恋，让瑞德对他和斯嘉丽的婚后生活深感失望。他们的情感冲突一次又一次，因为他们都同样的固执。最后，瑞德无奈地认输了，并把他从斯嘉丽那里得不到回报的情感都寄托在女儿邦妮的身上，宠爱得远远超过了一般父亲。而后来邦妮骑马时的意外出事，也给瑞德和斯嘉丽的婚姻造成了难以弥补的伤痕，只是在梅兰妮的安慰和协调下，情况才没有过于恶化。

但后来瑞德迫不及待地要与斯嘉丽结婚，从结果来看证明是个错误。他在求婚时就已经很清楚他要面对的情况，只是他的自负让他以为他能处理好。他从来没有这样想得到一个人，想拥有她，想融化她，只是他没有想到她不是一般的坚冰。他在她还没有发现她会爱上他之前就娶了她，因为他相信自己远比艾希礼强多了，没有可能强者会输给弱者，只是他没有想到她虽然表面上看来那么精明，骨子里却还是个傻女人。他以为婚姻是爱情的温床，他以为时间的推移会慢慢改变她，只是他没有想到他与她的婚姻对他来说虽然是第一次，对她来说却已经是第三次，她既然能不因为爱情而缔结前两次婚姻，就已说明婚姻对她来说只是意味着一种法律上的手续，对丈夫不屑于爱已经成为了她的习惯。所以，两个人婚姻的悲剧从某种角度说是缘于他的自以为是和无知。一方面他对斯嘉丽估计过高、对婚姻无知、对孩子溺爱，另一方面他又一直在努力尽着一个丈夫和父亲的责任，因此很难给他适当的评价，也许再精明的男人在爱情真正到来时，都会犯傻。
人在年轻的时候，不可能什么都学会，因为人生道路上的一些重要的认识，是要自己经历过后才会懂得。
对于一个年轻人来说，有自己的想法是很自然的事，虽然很多时候不一定真能那么自信，而传统是不容易理解的，虽然很多时候按照传统的想法去做很容易得到长辈的赞扬。只是，虽然年轻人也能和老年人讲一样的话，但在老年人的话里，包含了他自己对生活的全部理解。
瑞德和艾希礼最大的不同，在于瑞德相信自己远胜于相信传统，所以他从小就把自己按照自己的想法来塑造，而艾希礼相信传统远胜于相信自己，所以他从小就把自己按照传统的想法来塑造。瑞德和艾希礼的相同之处，在于他们都以为他们自己的标准就是生活的标准，觉得人生应当按他们自己设想的那样才对，他们都过早对自己有了太大的自信，对生活有了太高的期望。但是，命运是多么地令人难以想像呀!

梅兰妮的去世，最后打破了生活的平静。
悲伤的气氛使斯嘉丽的直觉变得无比敏锐，因为这一次的悲伤与前几次不同，这一次她不是主人。面对着为梅兰妮的逝去满怀悔恨、悲痛欲绝的艾希礼，斯嘉丽突然间发现，她对艾希礼的爱情全都消失了。她开始还以为这是她的错觉，然而她再注视着艾希礼时，她的心里再也感觉不到爱情的存在。她最初是那样地爱艾希礼，这是真的。但她以为岁月的流逝并没有减少她对艾希礼的爱，这只是她自己的固执。在她决定嫁给梅兰妮的弟弟时，她对艾希礼已经失望了一次。在她为战后桃瑞园的税金找艾希礼求助时，她对艾希礼又失望了一次。面对梅兰妮的去世艾希礼只想着他自己，让她对艾希礼再一次失望了。

爱情，是人在年轻时所无限向往和执着追求的人生目标之一。但是，人在年轻时对人生的认识事实上有很大的矛盾，一方面，人自己的潜意识为人默默指引着人的自然需求，另一方面，人自己的意识为人热烈指引着人的社会需求，而这两方面往往各行其是，竞相争夺对自身的支配权，爱情也是如此。
只是到了人不再年轻时，才恍然发觉：人生总有另外一面，从自然的角度说，人总是会老的，从社会的角度说，人的处境也总是会变的，许多事情，年代过了，意义也就不同了，许多问题，地位变了，角度也就不同了，过去认为应当那样才对的东西，现在却认为应当这样才好。

Recently, I have read the famous novel “Gone with The Wind” by Margaret Mitchell. Each character in this book gave me a great impression.
At beginning of the book, I think Scarlet was a beautiful, lucky woman. So many young men were in love with her and they always stayed around her. But in fact ,Scarlet was not the lucky woman I thought . She was fell in love with Ashley Wilkes, but the man was not like the other boys around her. when then news came that Ashley would be married with Melanie ,she felt surprised and even couldn’t accept the fact. With the psychology of revenging Ashley, Scarlett married to Melanie’s brother before the day of Ashley’wedding.
Soon after the war broke out , many young man died ,including Scarlett’s husband. Scarlett became a widow. She couldn’t stand the boring life, so when Melanie invited her to the home of Charles’s aunt. Without more consideration ,Scarlett left for Atlanta.
One time hospital hold a party to collect contributions. Then at the party ,she met Rhett buther, the man who loves her at first sight. Although Scarlett didn’t show any good feeling to him, Rhett buther always companied her and made her happy. For several reasons, she married again,but Rhett still loved her. When her second husband died, he asked Scarlett married him. Because he believed that he understoodher and he can bring her happy. After several month ,they got married. Their life became better and happier. Later they had a litte daughter, Bonnie. Rhett loved his lovely daughter just like the way he loved Scarlett. But Scarlett still loved Ashley. Unfortunitily, Bonnie died when she rided the horse. Rhett was hurt so badly that he couldn’t stand living with Scarlett,and he decided to leave. At this time she realised that the man she really loved was Rhett, not Ashley. She tried hard to persuard Rhett not to leave her. He left .I think it was a pity, but it doomed. Although Rhett love her so much ,he could do everything to make her happy, but she never opened her heart to him and tried to understand him.
Although Scarlett’s love was end up with tragedy. But from her attitude for life,we could know that she was a strong woman.she never gave up facing endless difficulties.when the war was terrible, everything was in confusion ,Scarlett had to take Melanie left back to home, the Tara Plantation. Hopefully she wanted her parent’s help. But to her surprise, her mum had died and her father was out of normal. Situation have became more difficult. While Melanie was going to give birth to a baby.
