第1幕场景地点苏格兰；英格兰故事发生于11世纪的苏格兰。
Macbeth（麦克白）及Banquo（班柯） 战胜归来，经过战地旁的树林时遇到3个女巫。
第一个女巫称呼麦克白为葛莱密斯爵士（Thane of Glamis），第二个女巫称麦克白为考特爵士（Thane of Cawdor），第三个女巫称他为苏格兰国王；班柯虽然不能当统治者，但他的后人会成为国王。
女巫预言后随即消失。
这个时候，国王Duncan（邓肯） 的信差抵达，宣布考德的领主因叛国被处死，国王颁令麦克白继任。
女巫的第一个预言应验了。
在麦克白的城堡内，麦克白夫人读著丈夫的来信，信中谈到有关遇到女巫的事。
