He uses his computer to calculate the risks and benefits of any decision before he makes it. He also suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which provides the punch line for many scenes in the movie. Jennifer Aniston portrays Polly, a carefree wild thing. Polly has too much fun. She likes salsa, owns a pet ferret and just can't find the time to unpack. Reuben's best friend warns him that Polly isn't his type. Their ensuing relationship conclusively proves it. Their dates usually end with some bathroom problem related to Reuben's IBS, but after each disastrous date Polly comes back for more. Unfortunately, the story and main characters are not fully realized. Ben Stiller is a funny guy, but here Reuben, with his uncooperative stomach and lack of grace, isn't a character so much as a punch line. Polly doesn't even appear until 10 minutes into the 90-minute picture, and then sometimes seems like a bit player in her own romance. Writer and director John Hamburg wants it both ways: He tries to put in all the expected funny scenes, and then he gets all sweet on us.
