Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I’m glad to be here to give you my speech called ‘ Yes, we can.’ If we want to say ‘yes, we can’, we must know what things we need to do first. Just like to me, it’s my duty and honour to make it a good speech for you. I believe I can. We need to know more meaningful things. For example, the 35th President of United States, J.F. Kennedy, said this in his inaugural speech: ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.’ Can we do more for our society? Yes, we can. We can make it a better world through our hard work. I n Barack Obama’s victory speech, he told a story about a woman who cast her ballot in Atlanta. Ann Nixon Cooper is 106 years old. She was born just a generation past slavery, a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons, because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin. This reminds me of Martin Luther King’s well-known speech—I have a dream. He said, ‘I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’ And now, it’s the 21st century. A man has touched down on the moon. The Cold War has been ended. An African-American is chosen to be the next president of USA. Can Martin Luther King’s dream come true? Sadly, it can’t at the present. But, if we do our best, can our dream of peace, liberty and equality come true in the future? Yes, we can. We need change and we can change the world and ourselves. We are sure, yes we can Believe that if we do our best, we can say it in a fantastic voice— ‘ Yes, we can.’ Thank you.
The United States of America (commonly referred to as the United States, the U.S., the USA, or America) is a federal constitutional republic comprising fifty states and a federal district. The country is situated mostly in central North America, where its forty-eight contiguous states and Washington, D.C., the capital district, lie between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. The state of Alaska is in the northwest of the continent, with Canada to the east and Russia to the west across the Bering Strait. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The country also possesses several territories in the Caribbean and Pacific. At 3.79 million square miles (9.83 million km2) and with about 308 million people, the United States is the third or fourth largest country by total area, and the third largest both by land area and population. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many countries.[7] The U.S. economy is the largest national economy in the world, with an estimated 2008 gross domestic product (GDP) of US $14.4 trillion (a quarter of nominal global GDP and a fifth of global GDP at purchasing power parity).[4][8]Indigenous peoples, probably of Asian origin, have inhabited what is now the mainland United States for many thousands of years. This Native American population was greatly reduced by disease and warfare after European contact. The United States was founded by thirteen British colonies located along the Atlantic seaboard. On July 4, 1776, they issued the Declaration of Independence, which proclaimed their right to self-determination and their establishment of a cooperative union. The rebellious states defeated Great Britain in the American Revolutionary War, the first successful colonial war of independence.[9] The Philadelphia Convention adopted the current United States Constitution on September 17, 1787; its ratification the following year made the states part of a single republic with a strong central government. The Bill of Rights, comprising ten constitutional amendments guaranteeing many fundamental civil rights and freedoms, was ratified in 1791.In the 19th century, the United States acquired land from France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Russia, and annexed the Republic of Texas and the Republic of Hawaii. Disputes between the agrarian South and industrial North over states' rights and the expansion of the institution of slavery provoked the American Civil War of the 1860s. The North's victory prevented a permanent split of the country and led to the end of legal slavery in the United States. By the 1870s, the national economy was the world's largest.[10] The Spanish–American War and World War I confirmed the country's status as a military power. It emerged from World War II as the first country with nuclear weapons and a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. The end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union left the United States as the sole superpower. The country accounts for two-fifths of global military spending and is a leading economic, political, and cultural force in the world.

Ladies and gentlemen, Good morning! It’s my great honor to be here, and I’m very happy to see you all! Thank you for being here. What I'm going to talk about is Courage —— A Weapon To Defeat Death. Do you want to challenge yourself? Do you want to achieve unusual success? Do you want to win the respect and appreciation of others? Be brave! Be braver. Be even more braver. You can achieve all of these! It is well known that the only thing that strikes fear into anybody is death. But those who have enormous courage can confront it fearlessly. We still remember one word, S-A-R-S, SARS. It broke out in December last year in Guang Dong province and soon rampaged our whole country. Thinking back to the days when SARS was a raging epidemic, thousands of people were infected and hundreds of people died of it. People didn’t know where the deadly strange new disease came from and how to treat it. At that very moment, the medical staff, battling with that notorious invisible enemy, actually were frightened of becoming infected and possibly transmitting that disease to their loved ones. However, they were not scared to death. On the contrary, they kept on working all day and all night. The early recovery of the SARS patient was what they were all hoping for. What support them? It’s the bravery. It’s the courage. It’s the sworn oath of a health care worker: to do what they could do for the sick. The final smile on their faces was the symbol of victory over death. Here, I want to pay tribute to those medical staff who fought the battle against SARS, and to those who gave their endless warm-hearted encouragement and support. Finally, I'd like to summarize my point in one sentence —— where there is bravery, there is the hope! Thank you for listening. Thank you very much.
