因为织出一条女式沙图什披肩便需要300至400克生绒，这意味着要牺牲3只藏羚羊的生命。
所以在上世纪90年代初期，藏羚羊的数目只有65000只到72500只之间，要知道这只有100年前藏羚羊总数的十分之一。
所幸的是人们意识到了保护这种濒临灭绝的动物。
现在北京已有多名志愿者来到可可西里担当起义务看护藏羚羊的活动。
同时国际爱护动物基金会从1999年起每年为我国藏羚羊保护捐赠8万至10万美金用以在可可西里、羌塘和阿尔金山三大自然保护区开展反盗猎行动和针对藏羚羊保护的各种宣传活动。

再看长江水质逐年恶化，攀枝花、重庆、武汉、南京、上海经济发展最快的沿江5大城市，在长江干流形成的污染累计长达500多公里。
长江每年接纳的废水已达 200亿吨，其中工业废水占比例最大、危害最甚。
美国著名的科学家说：“我们最为之庆贺的技术上的成就——汽车、发电站，就总体而言的工业，甚至就是现代城市本身，从环境角度上看，都是失败者。
” 美国副总统戈尔在《濒临失衡的地球》一书上认为，世界的文明和地球上生态系统相冲突的三个最主要原因是：人口爆炸、科学技术革命、自然观的改变。
其实科学技术首当其冲，本世纪人口爆炸主要是由于医疗水平提高，自然观的改变更是由于科学技术提供人类利用、征服大自然的手段。
1984年有人计算，过去的100年，交通速度提高了102倍，能源提高103倍，控制疾病能力提高102倍，人口增长速度提高103倍，通讯速度比一千年前提高了107倍，技术的加速发展，导致自然资源的加速消耗，导致生态破坏、环境污染加剧。

看来即使有各种政策和法律，依靠科学技术也只能解决部分环境问题。
