In ‘Mama and the Graduation Present’ by Kathryn Forbes,Katrin wants a pink celluloid dresser set in Mr.Schiller’s store.But when her mother offers a brooch that is precious to her mother,Katrin refuses it because she only wants the dresser set. Hermother trades the brooch to Mr. Schiller for the dresser set andgives the set to Katrin. When Katrin finds out what happened, shegets the brooch back and also gets a job in Mr.Schiller’s store. Inthis story, Katrin learns to put people beforepossessions.In the beginning of thestory, Katrin is selfish and ungrateful.
