We Die for Our Dreams ——Comments on The Great It was in a book of Murakami Haruki that I knew The Great for the first time. He said that The Great was a fantastic fiction so that I immediately developed a strong interest in it. At that time I wondered that what masterpiece would be worth such compliments from an excellent writer like Murakami Haruki. It must be more than a masterpiece. I read The Great Gatsby several years ago when I was in senior high school. Actually I was reading it for fun, the reason of which is obvious that under the great pressure of schoolwork I wouldn’t spare one more hour to receive ather boring sermon from anybody. However, I found it wasn’t that attractive as I imaged so I quitted reading it after getting the superficial main idea of it. Gatsby was decisive and stupid; dream lover Daisy was vulgar and ruthless; Daisy’s husband, accordingly, was a total jerk. There are neither admirable characters r exciting plot at all. It was definitely a masterpiece but wasn’t my cup of tea. As time passed by, I realized that even the same person tended to develop an extremely different opinion towards the very book. w I read it all over again and I found something deep and thought-provoking about it. Gatsby was described as an arrogant and tasteless businessman who was quite wealthy. He held parties almost every night to gather those so-called rich and genteel people. However, real purpose was to meet first lover—Daisy who had already married another rich and famed man. As he wished, he got to meet Daisy and found that she was still in love with him. But he didn’t realize that Daisy wasn’t what she used to be. She was no longer that innocent girl who waited for her lover, full of and wishes. In the end, Gatsby died for Daisy, the woman he had loved for lifetime. With little guilt or sorrow, Daisy quickly got rid of the whole mess and moved on smoothly as if nothing has happened, as if there has never been such a man named Gatsby who was in deep love with her and died for her. Gatsby’s love story was filled with cheat and cupidity. The statement that Gatsby and Daisy were in love with each other was merely a misconception. Or rather, they used to be in love for a short period but in the end, time changed everything and true love turned out an absurd lie. From another perspective, neither of them is to blame in this tragedy named love. Daisy was a typical woman of that time, who had pretty face as well as empty brain, married a rich man, spent their life going for various parties and immoderate shopping, and turned a blind eye to their husbands’ stuff. They had original pureness and rosy dreams which finally were eroded by the onrush of depraved age. And Gatsby was just a man who was still stuck in previously romance and tried his best to earn back his lover. He was oriented, diligent and sometimes kind-hearted. He had the courage to chase his dream while most people didn’t, though his attempt ended up nothing. Somebody said that be prepared for the nothing stuff and nowhere land, and keep walking with dreams. Maybe this makes sense to some extent. Even if we can predict the end in the very beginning, we will still orient ourselves in the thick fog and move ahead until death.

Read the great Gatsby feeling The great Gatsby is the most outstanding representative of the famous writer -- F Scott Fitzgerald American made in twentieth Century. Gatsby is the twentieth Century 20's American civilization was born out of the newborn. After the first World War, vitality not hurt America entered a historical era of unprecedented prosperity. American dream like the one in the air. Colorful balloons, a generation of Americans see things in a blur, be entranced. And the great Gatsby show disillusionment America dream. This novel is condemned to Tom as the representative of the America privileged class selfish bossy, do as one pleases, with a sympathetic attitude description of Gatsby's tragedy, and pointed out that his tragedy from his life and love the illusion. The background of the novel is set in the modern USA class in the society on the white circle, the narrative started by nick. In twentieth Century twenty's America, the air was filled with the breath of singing and drinking. Gatsby exhausted all efforts to create a brand-new oneself, the America dream. In the novel Fitzgerald by Nick's eyes, watching Gatsby from dreamily dream, a step by step more by closer, but when almost touch the suddenly like a bubble should gunfire and broken process. As the book said, Gatsby is really great. Making however, Gatsby seems destined not belong to the forces of the upper class people. Have to say, he is very childish, naive to the others already forget the dream year after year also hide in the heart. Making making making text can be seen everywhere in the Gatsby of Daisy's infatuation. But I don't think he is really so infatuated with Daisy this person. He subconsciously recognized crush on daisy. Before he obtained wealth, Daisy means the brilliant history it has been the social acceptance . This wonderful experience the excitement he use unscrupulous divisive tactics to make money, struggling among the upper class. His success at every step to do what little one can to help called Daisy's sculpture in his heart. Imperceptibly, Daisy component becomes huge, to become his spiritual prop. Even after Gatsby yangmingliwan, he also can be used to put this dream to do so. Can say, in his day in and day out in the fantasy, Daisy has been abstracted into what he craves all good. She is a fire, she is light, she is his life significance. Making it without a doubt, this dream had died. Gates Be Ta is loyal to the last pockets of the fire of hope, so just to remember the reality, continue persistently ready to pounce on the flame for its light, but unfortunately -- in fact, it is doomed to death. makingIn this farce, the only truth is Nick. After the death of Gatsby, the former guest did not make an appearance, Daisy will accompany her husband far away, Nick pierce to the heart of the matter that the social hypocrisy and ruthless, so that readers for the Gatsby pursued inevitably burst America dream have a deep impression. At the end of the story, only Gatsby's only friend Nick understood his waiting. When Gatsby absurd was pistol shot of the moment, he's Nick moved to sit at Gatsby numerous times to cherish the memory of the long beach, the unknown world. He understood that Gatsby first recognized the daisy terminal after the wonderful surprise, all actions that Gatsby wait for Daisy to dock in blue lawn, more importantly, in his infinite sadness, Gatsby's dream has been released into the atmosphere, vaguely in the voice of a hallucination, only Gatsby dies in this chaotic world, left is the sail against the current after the setback, and he is calm and nervous waiting for love and dream of the children's eyes.
求用英文写的了不起的盖茨比的读后感。
Pursuit for dreams —after reading The Great Gatsby I have heard of the famous novel The Great Gatsby for many years. However, until recently have I got the time and mood to read it. As soon as I finish reading, I find my previous unwarranted assumption of it totally wrong. This is a story about Gatsby and his pursuit for the ‘American dreams’. During the World War One, the poor soldier Gatsby fell in love with an upper class girl named Daisy. But due to the wide gap between them, Daisy decided to marry Tom, a man of her class, instead of Gatsby. Brokenhearted Gatsby then held the conviction that money was of the greatest importance. He strongly believed in the ‘American dreams’, which as we all know, advocates that one can achieve whatever he or she likes through continuous efforts. He strived for five years to become a millionaire and bought a villa near Daisys to attract her. He was too addicted to his fantasy to realize that Daisy was no longer the lovely girl she used to be. Eventually, he was killed because of her crime. After reading it, something reverberates in my heart. I cant help thinking of the theme Fitzgerald trying to convey. One thing may be the lonely void of peoples spiritual world. I am deeply impressed by chapter 3, where a vivid description of a party is given. There were beautiful girls, drunk men, and boisterous crowds there, but none of them perceived the pointless of their lives and the barren of their minds. To see this phenomenon deeper, there were two circumstances underlying it. The first is the lack of dreams. Some people, especially the people of the upper class, lived an aimless life. They wasted their time and money and took an indifferent attitude towards life. They chased for temporary ecstasy but lost their identity in eternity, namely Daisy and Tom. The second is the misleading of dreams. Some others like Gatsby, bravely pursued their dreams, yet going to a diverged way unconsciously. They might mix up the concept of a richer life and a happier life, viewing a higher social state and a peaceful fulfilled life as equality. Unfortunately, when they were busy chasing their dreams, everything changed with time. When they were anxious about the togets, they ignored what they had already had and lost the alert to the constant changes. The excellent use of symbolization illustrates this idea perfectly. The imagery of ‘green light’ is the most important symble which occurred three times in the novel. The green-light’s obscure in the mist indicates the dim of Gatsby’s dreams. As far as I am concerned, this story can serve as a reminder for us. To live a meaningful life, we should carefully choose some dreams to pursue. And in the process of fulfilling our dreams, we should always be concious about what we really desire. Anyhow, only by pursuing the proper dreams can we finally get to the deep springs of happiness.望采纳,谢谢
世界名著英文版读后感
The novel opens with the famous line, It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.. and ends with two marriages: Jane and Bingley's, as well as Darcy and Elizabeth's. Both couples are assumed to live happily ever after.Elizabeth (Lizzy) Bennet is the core of the family. Elizabeth is the second of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet's five daughters, and is an intelligent, bold, attractive twenty-year-old when the story begins. In addition to being her father's favourite, Elizabeth is characterized as a sensible, yet stubborn, woman. Misled by his cold outward behaviour, Elizabeth originally holds Mr. Darcy in contempt. However, she finds that Mr. Darcy improves on acquaintance, more so than she would expect.Fitzwilliam Darcy (commonly known as Mr. Darcy) is the central male character and Elizabeth's second love interest in the novel. He is an intelligent, wealthy, extremely handsome and reserved 28-year-old man, who often appears haughty or proud to strangers but possesses an honest and kind nature underneath. Initially, he considers Elizabeth his social inferior, unworthy of his attention, but he finds that, despite his inclinations, he cannot deny his feelings for Elizabeth. His initial proposal of marriage is rejected because of his pride and Elizabeth's prejudice against him; however, at the end of the novel, after their relationship has blossomed, he is happily engaged to a loving Elizabeth.Role of women in the 18th centuryIn late-18th-century England, women were relegated to secondary roles in society with respect to property and social responsibilities. For example, women were not permitted to visit new arrivals to the neighbourhood (such as Mr. Bingley in Pride and Prejudice) until the male head of their household had first done so. Women were under enormous pressure to marry for the purpose of securing their financial futures and making valuable social connections for their families. Therefore, marriage, though romanticised, was in many ways a financial transaction and social alliance rather than a matter of love. Although Jane Austen did not condone loveless marriages (she stayed single all her life), she did approve of matches having equality in various respects, including wealth, social status, love and character. In Pride and Prejudice, wealth, social status, chastity (and the perception of chastity) and physical attractiveness are depicted as factors affecting a woman's chances for a good marriage.Published in 1925, The Great Gatsby became an immediate classic and propelled its young author to a fame he never again equalled. The novel captured the spirit of the Jazz Age, a post-World War I era in upper-class America that Fitzgerald himself gave this name to, and the flamboyance of the author and his wife Zelda as they moved about Europe with other American expatriate writers (such as Ernest Hemingway). However, Gatsby expresses more than the exuberance of the times. It depicts the restlessness of what Gertrude Stein (another expatriate modernist writer) called a lost generation. Recalling T. S. Eliot's landmark poem The Wasteland (1922), then, Gatsby also has its own valley of ashes or wasteland where men move about obscurely in the dust, and this imagery of decay, death, and corruption pervades the novel and infects the story and its hero too. Because the novel is not just about one man, James Gatz or Jay Gatsby, but about aspects of the human condition of an era, and themes that transcend time altogether, it is the stuff of myth. Gatsby's attempts to attain an ideal of himself and then to put this ideal to the service of another ideal, romantic love, are attempts to rise above corruption in all its forms. It is this quality in him that Nick Carraway, the novel's narrator, attempts to portray, and in so doing the novel, like its hero, attains a form of enduring greatness. The novel is narrated in retrospect; Nick is writing the account two years after the events of the summer he describes, and this introduces a critical distance and perspective which is conveyed through occasional comments about the story he is telling and how it must appear to a reader. The time scheme of the novel is further complicated as the history of that summer of 1922 contains within it the story of another summer, five years before this one, when Gatsby and Daisy first courted. This is the story that Jordan tells Nick. As that earlier summer ended with Gatsby's departure for the war in the fall, so the summer of Nick's experience of the East ends with the crisis on the last hot day (the day of mint juleps in the hotel and Myrtle Wilson's death) and is followed by Gatsby's murder by George Wilson on the first day of fall. This seasonal calendar is more than just a parallel, however. It is a metaphor for the blooming and blasting of love and of hope, like the flowers so often mentioned. Similarly, the novel's elaborate use of light and dark imagery (light, darkness, sunshine, and shadow, and the in-between changes of twilight) symbolizes emotional states as well.红字The Scarlet Letter attained an immediate and lasting success because it addressed spiritual and moral issues from a uniquely American standpoint. In 1850, adultery was an extremely risqué subject, but because Hawthorne had the support of the New England literary establishment, it passed easily into the realm of appropriate reading. It has been said that this work represents the height of Hawthorne's literary genius; dense with terse descriptions. It remains relevant for its philosophical and psychological depth, and continues to be read as a classic tale on a universal theme.[6] Another consideration to note having to do with the book's popularity is that it was one of the first mass-produced books in America. Into the mid-nineteenth century, bookbinders of home-grown literature typically hand-made their books and sold them in small quantities. The first mechanized printing of The Scarlet Letter, 2,500 volumes, sold out immediately, was widely read and discussed to an extent not much experienced in the young country up until that time. Copies of the first edition are often sought by collectors as rare books, and may fetch up to around $6,000 USD.远离尘嚣Much of the plot of Far from the Madding Crowd depends on unrequited love — love by one person for another that is not mutual in that the other person does not feel love in return. The novel is driven, from the first few chapters, by Gabriel Oak's love for Bathsheba. Once he has lost his farm, he is free to wander anywhere in search of work, but he heads to Weatherbury because it is in the direction that Bathsheba has gone. This move leads to Oak's employment at Bathsheba's farm, where he patiently consoles her in her troubles and supports her in tending the farm, with no sign he will ever have his love returned. This novel focuses on the way that catastrophe can occur at any time, threatening to change lives. The most obvious example occurs when Oak's flock of sheep is destroyed by an unlikely confluence of circumstances, including an inexperienced sheep dog, a rotted rail, and a chalk pit that happens to have been dug adjacent to his land. In one night, Oak's future as an independent farmer is destroyed, and he ends up begging just to secure the diminished position of a shepherd. This novel offers modern readers a clear picture of how important social position was in England in the nineteenth century and of the opportunities that existed to change class, in either direction. In the beginning, Oak and Bathsheba are social equals: he is an independent farmer who rents his land, and she lives on her aunt's farm next door to his, which is presumably similar in value. The only thing that keeps her from accepting his proposal of marriage is the fact that she just does not want to be married yet. After Oak loses his farm and Bathsheba inherits her uncle's farm, there is little question of whether they can marry — their social positions are too different. She is more socially compatible with Boldwood, who owns the farm next to hers and is in a similar social position.
