1944年出生于坦尚尼亚的特桑克威，是个坦尚尼亚的布希曼人荒野农夫，在非洲草原上。
在成名之前很少跟外界接触，只接触过三个白人。
藉著1980年的电影走红，此后来香港及中国拍片皆大受欢迎。
艺名中的感叹号是非洲母语的一个点击子音的象徵。
