In the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young . When the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80. 3 My Definition of Success “Once upon a time， there was a king who had a daughter as beautiful as a blooming rose. The three tasks may be different in different versions, but the main plot is always the same, with the prince claiming the princess's hand triumphantly.And the ending is always the same, finishing with the line And they live happily every after.Why aren't we tired of something so fanciful, so unrealistic, and, I would say, so unimaginative? How can a story like that endure generations of repetition`? Because, I think, it is a typical success story. It is highly philosophical and symbolic. By implication, we see a 4-step definition of success: 1 ) a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess; 2 ) challenges to be met, as represented by the three tasks; 3 ) the process of surmounting difficulties, as represented by the ordeals the youth goes through; and 4 ) the reward of success, as represented by the happy marriage.The story not only caters to everyone's inward yearning for success, but also emphasizes the inseparability of the process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous, and vice versa. If a person inherits his father's millions and leads an easy life, he is not a successful person even in material terms, because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term success, to be sure. will not sit still for easy definition. But as I understand it, the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactory result of an endeavor. To clarify my view, let me give another analogy.If we changed the rules of football, greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper, so that another David, namely David Beckham, could score easily, then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishment and the joy that it brings. If we further changed the rules by not allowing Arsenal's defenders to defend, so that Beckham needed only to lift a finger, actually a toe, to score, then there would be no game at all, because the meaning of winning would have disappeared. In accepting the challenge, in surmounting the difficulties and in enduring the hardship, success acquires its value. The sense of attainment varies in proportion to the degree of difficulties on overcomes.The concept of success is not constant but relative because the nature of difficulty is also relative. Something you do effortlessly might pose a great difficulty for a handicapped person. In acquiring the ability to do the same as you can, he or she achieve success. That's why we greatly admire Stephen Hawking, because, though confined to a wheel chair, he has contributed greatly to the field of science.I myself, a rather shy person by nature who easily suffer from stage fright, had to pluck up great courage to take part in a speech contest like this. I could have stayed away and had an easy time of it by not entering the university level contest.But I chose to accept the challenge and to face the difficulties. Now here I am. If I come out first, it will be a great success for me. If I come out last-I hope this will not be the case-but if I come out last, I will not call my attempt a failure, but will also celebrate it as a true success, because part of my goal is my own character training-to do more assertive, to be brave in face of difficulties. Among novels, most of the teenagers and a great many of adults prefer to read fantasy rather than any other novels, then here is the question, why does most of us like to read fantasy, in another word, what are the advantages of fantasy than other kind’s books and what is the thing that can allure us in the fantasies. To answer these questions, I’d like to begin with is the definition of fantasy. Fantasy, in the dictionary, means the creative imagination and unrestrained fancy, when it connected to fiction, it is usually characterized by highly fanciful or supernatural elements - “Fantasy”. Things above can prove one of the reasons why we like fantasy so much. It’s because fantasy can be anything, it can be a creature has three legs; it can be a wizard who can do spells. Fantasy writers can write whatever they want to write and which means there are no absolute limitations in fictions. They can write as interesting as they want, and they can write as magical as they want. In a word, fictions can help people to realize their dream that is one of the most important reasons that people like to read fantasy novels. And when I read a book, I always image the scenarios in the book. Do you do the same? I am wondering that most people like to imagine when we read book. And here comes another reason that why we all like fantasy so much, fantasy can give us a prefect unlimited space and time to imagine. Another thing which can support this reason is because teenagers don’t like old things and the nature rules, they always like to try new things and break the rule, they like to dream, also that’s what we called “cool”, “super”, “modern” etc. We all want to be cool, don’t we! Then read fantasy, read cool stuff and be a cool guy or a cool girl! Why not! And this is another most important reason. After answer above questions, here comes the main question, what is fantasy: as I said above fantasy novels are unnatural cool books, which gives us an unlimited space to image and to think. Fantastic readings are mainly based on science fiction, illusion fiction and other types. Here come several examples. One of the most successful one of the fantasies - famous Harry Potter is written in a very smart way. The reason way it is so famous is because it makes it like a true story, for young wizards have to go to a school to learn magic from old wizards. Also, they have department, government etc. That’s very smart isn’t it, and that’s what a fantasy should be like-seems like true but not true. Also the other reason that why Harry Potter is so famous is because it’s about wizard. Most of the fantasy books include wizard, witches, warlocks and monsters and well, that’s why it is called fantasy I think. All these characters are all prepared by the author and they all make the book very exciting. Like in the book 20000 miles under the water, super big octopuses are used. In Harry Potter, wizards are used, etc. Also one other important thing about fantasy is that it always use good guys and bad guys, and try to tell us meaningful things behind the interesting or funny stories, such as Harry Potter tries to tell you friendship is the best thing in the word, Secret land tries to tell you try hard and you will always win etc. “Fantasy” helps people to realize their dream in imagination world, which is impossible in real world, people can find lots of fun in fantastical space, which help people to relax pressure in real world, fantastical stories also, educates people in scientific knowledge and in ethical and social behaviors, but mainly, it is fantasy, simple but it’s magically magic!
