谢家声试图通过塑造一个儒家思想影响下的中国的李尔和接受的考狄利娅之间发生的误解,以及高纳里尔等人物的野心、丑恶来探讨中西两种伦理观念的冲突。
尽管舞台背景和服装是现代的,但戏剧的内容,包括采用的的译本却仍然是属于莎士比亚的。
在导演手法上,着重于悲剧意蕴的开掘,他深得亚洲独特的东方式形体动作戏剧的灵感启发,将戏剧的背景放在一个规模巨大的国际商业王国之中,英伦的海滩变成了上海的外滩。
而这个跨国公司正面临着前所未有的危机。
在这个国际商业王国的高层视频会议上,各种人物在一个接一个的视频画面中表演了对权力的贪婪、膨胀的野心和罪恶的欲望。
在背景不断变换的各种视频中,反复出现各种人物赤身裸体的画面,从女性的胴体,到男性的扭曲,再到一丝不挂的婴儿,这一切都表现了人性的复杂。
在这个国际商业王国中,人们在股市上获取利润,在会议中勾心斗角,金钱像雪片一样飞来,却仍难以填满欲望的沟壑。
三个巨大的玻璃视频既成为戏剧的背景,又是的有机组成部分,演员穿梭于其中,象征着会议室、客厅、监狱、电梯、多佛酒店、房地产公司等等。
中英两种语言交替使用,中国京剧的锣鼓点、形体动作与西方话剧的对白、独白混合使用。
李尔的悲剧还涉及到佛教精神,舞台呈现给观众的,是他已经相信所有的生命终究是要经历苦难,而人的灵魂是可以轮回的,所以,今世要为来世着想和积德修福。
救苦救难的的观世音与《李尔王》对“爱”的演绎正是这种佛教精神的体现。
但是,谢家声的《李尔王》还不止于此,道家思想也是他要表现的一个重要内容。
李尔在历经人世的苦难与风暴之后,终于要在中国道教中去寻找人生的启迪了。
但悲剧已经无可挽回了。
弄臣的角色用歌队的形式表演,在音乐声和歌声中使李尔的潜意识不断得到了强化。
采用中西嫁接、古代与现代融合、权力、野心、欲求与人性复归的导演理路,淋漓尽致地表现了这部戏剧的主题,鲜明地体现了导演谢家声先生的艺术和美学追求。
西方戏剧是建立在模仿论的基础上的,其目的不仅在于创造出逼真的外在环境,更重要的还在于把具有真实感的人物置身到这个环境中去,并让他们自主地行动起来。
由先生领衔主演,扮演的李尔王在表演中显然抓住了“真实感”这个关键,同时又不圄于“逼真的外在环境”,充分发挥了戏剧“虚拟”的表演特长,在表演中结合中西戏剧的演出方式,将“悲怆、浓烈、深邃和阔大的演出风格贯穿于人物的行动,忠实、自主地传达了原作的精神”。
戏剧,就其本质来说,是行动的艺术。
处于贫病交加中的李尔,柔肠寸断,悔愧不已,老泪纵横,迸发出人性的思想光辉。
在戏剧的表演过程中,通过联系于知觉和表象的审美想像赋予所塑造的人物以新的审美知觉和审美想像,而且,这种想像不是凭空进行的。
它是在已有的知觉、表象以及它们之间相互联系的基础上,对李尔的形象进行了重新的创造。
正如阿恩海姆所说:“富于想像力的形象,并不是去歪曲真理,而是对真理的肯定,实际上,正是在处理那些最普通的对象和最为老生常谈的故事时,艺术想像力才最最明显地表现出来。
”而这种富有想像力的再创造,必将使在世界莎剧舞台上被演绎过无数次的《李尔王》获得了新的生命。
表演的《李尔王》真实、准确。
他在演出中追求念白的非生活化,呈现出诗的韵律,具有震撼人心的力量。
演出以真实表现荒诞,使观众从现实中感受到象征的力量,不仅是个人的命运,而是人类的命运和世界的前途。
戏剧话语的最大特点在于把情境直接展现出来,而不是通过别人叙述,而这种情境的展现主要依靠的就是呈现在舞台上的台词语言。
李尔的台词经过周野芒的锤炼,似珍珠光芒四射,他的台词经过精心提炼是极其讲究的艺术语言,具有强烈的审美感。
这种审美感知是 “艺术家的心灵所赋予这些对象的形式”。
听他念词,清晰洪亮,跌宕有致,富于强烈的韵律感,加上莎翁台词本身具有的诗意,使他的台词达到朗诵化的境界,也有浓郁的戏曲“韵白”的味道,由于观念与形象达到了和谐一致,美的感受就产生了。
在“风暴”一场,周野芒以深厚的底气,超人的力度,发出“吹吧,风呵,猛烈地吹吧!”的呼喊,使全场观众感到震撼。
然后,大段独白,一气呵成,字字句句都像携带着雷电。
既体现了莎剧的原作精神,又相当完美地塑造了具有东方文化特色中国李尔这个复杂人物。

她们根本就没有一个为人妻、为人女的样子，可能她们直到死都没有明白一个为人的道理吧
这里最坏的、用谋最高一筹的应该说是葛罗斯脱的私生子爱特门了，为了家产、为了更高的地位同样是迫害自己同父异母的哥哥，更是害了一直把他当作孝子的父亲，这些对他来说还不够，居然用自己的相貌和花言巧语把所有的人哄得团团转，最终有两个女人因为他的虚情假意而死于自己的手中，而他自己到最后一无所有，还葬送了自己，读后感《口中出蜜，心必剑——《李尔王》读后感》。
