我采取的主要劝说手段有：逻辑推理，动情的述说和可信度。
我的大多数客户以前是从其他供货商处购买这些防护产品的(例如，护目镜、靴子和手套等)。
我决定提供优惠服务—免费送货，即使是当天就要的急货或者是另外州的客户也不例外。
节省资金的原则促使我的客户转而购买我的产品。
我逐渐有了自己的客户。
即使是首次拜访客户，我也能尽快地了解对方。
例如，我环顾其办公室后，看到墙上有赛车或橄榄球运动员的挂像，于是就知道了对方的兴趣所在了。
这是建立共同点的一种策略。
困难要不断地克服。
刚开始的时候，我感到很多人不乐意同黑人作生意。
我不得不想其他的办法。
我假装是公司的销售代理而不是公司总裁，帮助公司推销产品。
偏见和歧视是不得不克服的一个障碍。

知识是树立可信度的另外一种方式。
因为我了解所有的相关法规，所以我可以告诉客户怎样高效、经济地利用我们的产品。
例如，玛利奥特公司( M a r r i o t t )使用溶剂手套给洗碗工。
这些手套应该给和汽油等溶剂打交道的工人使用，洗碗工用这种手套太浪费了。
我们推荐了另外一种便宜且实用的手套给这家公司。
帮助客户解决问题本身就树立了我的可信度，同时巩固了我们的关系，还有力地劝说他们从我这里购买商品。
劝说主要靠使用对方的母语，直接或隐含地与之沟通。
无论是推销安全设备还是观点，有效的说服应依靠严密的逻辑、动之以情的言辞和良好的可信度及信任。
阐述的理由应是对方认为重要的理由；动情的说服当然是基于对方认同的价值观之上的；可信度就更是由对方裁定的了。
劝说性信函包含命令、请求、建议和推荐，以及销售或筹款信、求职信或任何试图改变他人行为的努力，如催款函、批评或业绩评估—其中你希望下属改进今后的工作表现；公益广告—为劝说人们减少酒后驾车和吸毒恶习等等。
报告中如果提议实施某事当然也算劝说性的。
本章会概括地讨论劝说性信函的写作。
第1 0章中会讨论对方很具反叛性的情形。
第11章是销售和筹款信函的写作。
第1 4章讲建议和许可。
第1 5章讨论报告的写法。
第1 9章是求职信的写作。
所有劝说性信函的目的都是多重的：主要目的让读者采取一定行动。
