此前派从来没有在暴雨中乘过轮船，所有的东西对他来说都是那么新奇。
忽然，一阵大浪向他扑来，扑灭了他的兴奋，同时也吞没了他所乘的轮船。
派连滚带爬地上了一条救生船，当轮船沉没的时候这救生船正好飘离了。
派独自呆在了救生艇上，和他同在救生艇上的还有三只动物，一只斑马，一只猩猩，和一只鬣狗。
鬣狗吃掉了其他两只动物，这使他限于崩溃，他绝望了。
此时一只孟加拉虎跳进救生船吃掉了鬣狗。
