Anyone who has been close to the frailties of the human mind will appreciate how respectfully and honestly this film approaches the subject. Howard is able to portray all the complex reactions to mental illness while maintaining the humanity and dignity of the patient. Superbly directed, wonderfully acted by Crowe and cast, this film succeeds on every level.

大学时代的他性格内向，一个人住一间宿舍，但是他却在自己的脑海中幻想出一个室友出来，他不但在自己的幻觉中和这位室友一直相处很好，而且这个幻觉一直伴随到他老，都无法抹去这个幻觉。
